Job Description Summary
The Research Specialist C is needed to support our translational research program within the Center for Neuroinflammation and Experimental Therapeutics. This position is necessary to manage both support of the complexity of managing a large mouse colony for bench research pursuing the basic mechanisms of glial cell role in remyelination, as well as supporting clinical research efforts translating my diagnoses in my neurogenetics clinic to development of future treatments, a collaboration with the Global Leukodystrophy Initiative housed at CHOP. Without this position, it will be challenging for my research program to balance and manage these critical endeavors to develop future therapies of acquired and inherited disorders of myelin.
Job Description
The prospective candidate will fulfull the role of the Orthmann-Murphy laboratory’s manager, and will be responsible for developing and maintaining lab protocols and records, sourcing and ordering supplies and animals for research, and maintaining compliance for animal and clinical research, as well as biosafety, in a combination BSL1/BSL2 lab space. This individual should also be comfortable managing and maintaining a large mouse colony across multiple facilities, including breeding, identification and genotyping of several transgenic strains. Lastly, they will act as the primary research coordinator for the Myelin Disorders Biorepository Project (MDBP) at Penn, managing patient records in RedCap, transferring samples between Penn and CHOP, and isolating peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMCs) from participant blood samples.
Position Schedule: Must be able to work from 9am – 5pm, primarily in person
Hiring range minimum for this position is $ 70,676.07.
