Job Description Summary
The Morrisey Lab in the Department of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania is seeking to hire a Research Specialist B to join a dynamic and cutting edge research team exploring regenerative lung biology. We utilize multiple model systems in our work including novel transgenic mouse models, advanced imaging techniques, human lung organoids and tissue explants, and custom bioinformatics platforms to enhance our wet lab bench research. Our lab is composed of a highly collaborative and collegiate team of graduate students, postdoctoral fellows, physician-scientists and a core team of laboratory support staff. The Research Specialist B position will work closely with senior personnel to execute and develop new techniques, generate data for top tier research publications, maintain day-to-day operations of 20-plus person laboratory and be given the opportunity to accomplish independent research projects and advance their own education.
Job Description

Plans and conducts basic experiments to meet research project objectives, with close supervision. Assists in performing laboratory experiments and clinical studies for product or material formulation and development. Daily management of laboratory tool, documentations and processes to ensure regulatory compliance and timely completion of project/program deliverables. Closely collaborates with Senior Research Specialists and Principal Investigator (PI) on experimental/clinical work set ups in accordance to established protocols.
In the addition to the above, the Research Specialist B position is expected to have prior experience with mouse models, animal husbandry and performing standard injections and tissue harvesting as duties will include processing and analysis of human and mouse tissue samples; maintaining cell lines and performing primary cell culture, and mouse colony management and genotyping. This position will assume a leading role in planning and conducting independent experiments including DNA and RNA isolation, Q-PCR, western blots and flow cytometry. The Research Specialist B will also be expected to analyze data, interpret results, troubleshoot and present organized data at laboratory meetings. Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in biology, molecular biology, biochemistry or related field and a minimum of 1-3 years of hands-on laboratory experience is required or equivalent combination of education and experience. Three or more years of experience and/or a Master’s Degree in biology related field is preferred. The successful candidate must have a solid background in mammalian cell culture and molecular and cell biology techniques. Experience with FACS, Q-PCR, and immunocytochemistry is a plus. Excellent verbal and written communication skills, comprehension of scientific literature and competency with computer programs including MS Office and Adobe Creative Suite are required. Strong organizational skills and ability to work independently is necessary. The successful candidate will be expected to present at laboratory meetings and collaborate frequently on team projects.
