Job Description Summary
A full-time position is available working with Alice Chen-Plotkin in the Department of Neurology at the University of Pennsylvania. Our research programs study neurodegenerative diseases with a particular focus on Parkinson’s disease. Projects range from clinical research into genetic risk factors for disease outcomes to studying the basic mechanisms of the neurodegenerative disease process.
We are looking for a highly motivated person who is excited about doing bench-based mechanistic research, possibly combined with a small component of clinical research. Laboratory responsibilities will include routine molecular biology (PCR, DNA sequencing, genotyping, cloning) and routine biochemistry (immunoblotting) methods, as well as assisting with animal husbandry (mouse models of neurodegeneration). While prior lab research experience is preferred, we are happy to teach most of these skills during the course of the research. All members of the lab are also expected to attend weekly lab meetings and to participate in the educational activities (e.g. journal club) of the lab. Candidates should be enthusiastic, willing to learn, well-organized, and interested in taking ownership of a scientific project.
