Job Description Summary
The Morrisey Lab in the Department of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania is seeking to hire a Research Specialist A to join a dynamic and cutting-edge research team exploring regenerative lung biology to join our research team. The primary role of this position is to work with a senior scientist to assist with their research projects. Applicants should have a biology or life sciences educational background, prior experience working in laboratories is preferred but not required. Duties include preparing tissue for PCR and western analysis, performing histology staining, animal dissection, cell culture experiments, assisting in mouse colony work; setting up breeding cages and weaning, assisting with general laboratory chores and routine maintenance tasks. Duties and responsibilities will expand as the candidate gains experience and independence. In addition, the candidate will be expected to keep a detailed lab notebook, participate in discussions about experimental data, assist with general lab responsibilities as needed. The ideal candidate for this position will be a well-organized individual who is eager to learn research techniques and can agree to a two-year commitment.
Job Description
This position is contingent upon favorable funding.
The person in this position will work closely with a senior member of the lab to provide technical support to achieve research goals. This is not an independent position and will be closely supervised and extensive training will be provided. The major skill sets required are previous lab experience and the ability to maintain careful records and perform basic biochemical and research animal techniques once trained. This position is ideal for candidates looking to get more lab experience before moving on to graduate or medical school and can to agree to a two-year commitment.
