The Behavioral Lab, led by Dr. Cristina Bicchieri at the University of Pennsylvania, is seeking to hire a new research specialist. Our group includes psychologists, behavioral economists, game theorists, and political theorists. At the BeLab we conduct both experimental and theoretical research on social norms, trendsetting, moral heuristics and biases, perceptions of fairness, cheating, corruption, autonomy, and many other areas. Our research interests here are broad and are constantly evolving. Interested applicants should be prepared for (and look forward to) a rich and dynamic research experience.
Job Responsibilities/Duties:
Responsibilities for a new research specialist would include (but are not limited to) experiment design, experiment preparation (programming, questionnaire preparation, etc.) subject recruitment, overseeing experiments (both online and in person), data coding and analysis, manuscript preparation, and preparing scientific presentations.
This position is technically focused. Successful candidates will be familiar with quantitative research methodologies and possess programming skills. As research programming is a significant part of this role, applicants should be familiar with programming languages such as Python or R and be willing learners of new software engineering skills. The Research Specialist will also help manage the Behavioral Ethics Lab (BeLab) by recruiting participants and collecting data. It is also beneficial to have familiarity with behavioral science and social science more generally.
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in psychology, economics, comp sci. or a related field and 0 to 1 year of experience or equivalent combination of education and experience is required.
Previous research experience in psychology and/or experimental economics (Required)
Strong quantitative skills (especially with statistics, statistical software, and collecting data) (Required)
Programming experience with Python, R or related programming language (Required)
Any experience with Qualtrics, OTree, and Mechanical Turk (Preferred)
Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail (Preferred)
Flexible and independent thinking and the ability to self-motivate (Preferred)
Excellent writing skills (Preferred)
Ability to recruit lab participants and familiarity with social science research with human subjects (Preferred)
