Job Responsibilities

Research Specialist A:

Learning and abiding by laboratory SOPs, protocol specific lab manuals, and reviewing changes as they occur.

Working closely with the Primary Investigators, Program Manager, Lab Manager, Research/Clinical Staff to ensure study specimens are collected, processed, stored, and shipped in compliance with protocol requirements and timepoints.

Collecting/entering specimen data and resolving data entry errors/queries

Maintaining specimen kits and reagents per protocol guidelines and frequently reviewing supplies/expiration dates and ordering new supplies

Processing study specimens and preparing necessary assays while using aseptic technique.

Communicates specimen management with the study team during start-up and continue to educate or troubleshoot any biospecimen-related issues that may arise for the duration of protocol implementation.

Participating in reoccurring study team meetings and ongoing protocol training.

Showing vigilance in laboratory safety, protocol compliance, data integrity, and preventing specimen contamination

Participating in site initiation visits, interim monitoring visits, audits, and close-out visits as needed.

Responding to concerns regarding stored specimens in the event of an emergency, such as freezer malfunctions

Adhering to all University of Pennsylvania, local, state and federal standards/regulations, and GCLP guidelines.

Research Specialist B:

In addition to the above duties, this position may be responsible for more complex sample processing, will have less supervision, and will need to use more independent judgment in their day-to-day activities.

Qualifications

Research Specialist A

Bachelor of Science and 0 to 1 year of experience or equivalent combination of education and experience is required.

Research Specialist B:

Bachelor of Science and 1 to 2 years of experience or equivalent combination of education and experience is required.

Preferred:

Effective problem-solving abilities; effective communication; strong organizational and time management skills; flexible and able to multi-task; strong attention to detail.

Demonstrated ability to work as part of a team, as well as independently; strong aseptic technique; self-motivated; high reliable and good work ethic.

Knowledge of PC applications and experience in data entry.

Lab specimen processing experience.
