Plans and conducts basic experiments to meet research project objectives, with close supervision. Assists in performing laboratory experiments and clinical studies for product or material formulation and development. Daily management of laboratory tools, documentations and processes to ensure regulatory compliance and timely completion of project/program deliverables.
Job Description
The Research Specialist will play a critical role in a facility whose purpose is the efficient evaluation of promising therapies for human pancreatic cancer, using an animal model for the disease. The main modality used is ultrasound; the equipment and software we use are custom designed for use in research mice. Ultrasound is used for diagnosis, monitoring, and to guide surgical interventions. We perform tumor identification and volume measurement by ultrasound scan; ultrasound guided pancreatic implantation of tumor cell lines and ultrasound guided intra-tumoral injection of treatments. Continuing education in imaging and in new applications is emphasized. Other related technical approaches will be incorporated as needed and the specialist will be expected to acquire additional
proficiencies as project needs require. Evaluation of enrolled animals and preparation of treatments will involve molecular biology bench procedures. Management of a complex breeding colony of mice will be a part of the position. Work will be done under the guidance of the facility director, a veterinarian. We work with both healthy and sick animals and careful compassionate animal handling is vital. The research specialist will be a member of a team that collectively provides services to laboratories and other clients; as such, a collaborative approach to the work is expected.
Position is dependent on continued grant support.
