Posted Job TitleInnovative Care Phlebotomy SpecialistJob Profile TitleClinical Research Assistant BJob Description SummaryThe Innovative Care Phlebotomy Specialist will provide both clinical and innovative care/research phlebotomy services, assist with the innovative care program implementation as well as support limited aspects of the program’s clinical research studies in the Division of Multiple Sclerosis (MS) and Related Disorders at the University of Pennsylvania Department of Neurology.Job Description
The Innovative Care Program in the Division of MS and Related Disorders aims to integrate precision-medicine into the delivery of superb, multidisciplinary care for patients with MS and related neuro-immunological conditions. The Program will achieve this through ‘deep endophenotyping’ of individual patients by establishing the organized and prospective collection, and the integration into clinical care, of high quality standardized clinical, imaging and biological data. This innovative approach will involve establishment of a dynamic, multi-dimensional data-registry which will avail providers and patients, at time of each visit, with the most up-to-date deep-endophenotype of each individual. Together, this will directly inform real-time management discussions and guide treatment recommendations best suited for the individual patient, at that time. In addition to providing personalized, cutting-edge quality care, the MS Innovative Care program, will also serve as the clinical ‘heart’ of Penn’s Center for Neuroinflammation and Experimental Therapeutics (CNET), as all consenting patients will be invited to contribute their high quality clinical, imaging, and biological registry data for research purposes, thereby enabling a broad range of translational research opportunities.
This program aims to establish a strong connection between research and clinical care, facilitating a smooth and cohesive integration of both domains. The IC Phlebotomist will facilitate this integration by providing full phlebotomy services (blood draws, coordination with labs including Penn Lab, Quest, and LabCorp) basic sample processing, etc. for all clinical and innovative care patients as well as limited phlebotomy services (blood draws) for clinical research patients, principally in the Neurology clinic in PCAM, during regular clinic hours (8:30am-5:30pm). The IC Phlebotomist/CRC will also contribute significantly to quality improvement (QI) projects related to in-clinic phlebotomy (including access to care), SOPs, and the development of future training materials.
Patient-facing experience and demonstrated phlebotomy skills with proof of phlebotomy training/certification are strongly preferred. Position is contingent on continued funding.
