The Executive Director serves as a trusted partner and expert on people strategy and operations, helping to promote a high-performing culture that results in operational efficiency and effectiveness. Reporting to the Vice Dean for Administration and Finance, the Executive Director leads the creation and execution of an innovative and comprehensive talent management strategy based on the School’s strategic plan and in light of ever-changing funding challenges in higher education.
The Executive Director leads a team that manages all human resource and administration functions for faculty (standing faculty, associated faculty and academic support staff), staff, temps and students by administering all phases of the employee life cycle (attraction, recruitment, onboarding, performance, learning and development, advancement (including appointments and promotions), wellbeing, and separation as well as the general administration and operations of the department. This leader ensures uniform compliance with legal and regulatory requirements, records management and reporting, and interpretation of University policies, practices and procedures outlined in the Faculty Handbook and HR policy manual.
DUTIES:
QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor’s degree required in Human Resources, Business Administration, Organizational Development or related field with 7 to 10 years of progressive work experience or equivalent combination of education and experience. Master’s degree preferred. Comprehensive knowledge of the human resource function required. PHR/SPHR or SHRM-CP/SHRM-SCP Certification highly desired. Knowledge of federal and state employment laws including FMLA, ADA, FLSA and other regulations required. Proven knowledge of contemporary issues in HR/OD, preferably with a background in organization design and change management.
Prior experience with administering the employee life cycle (attraction, recruitment, onboarding, performance, learning and development, advancement, wellbeing, and separation), managing the people operations for an organization and executing a comprehensive talent management strategy. Knowledge of compensation administration principles and practices including job design. Business acumen and organizational diagnostic ability; able to develop in depth understanding of how business gets done with strong working knowledge of key business processes. Ability to identify issue essentials, delve under symptoms to find root issues and causes, analyze issues from multiple perspectives. Ability to interact effectively with diverse individuals at all levels. Experience with and understanding of university policies and procedures related to human resources needed. Significant employee relations experience needed. Prior higher education administrative experience with knowledge of academic and HR policies and procedures relative to faculty affairs and HR strongly desired. Strong management and administrative background with solid supervisory experience essential. Must have excellent assessment, planning, development and implementation skills. A record of accomplishment in administrative excellence and strategic planning of human capital management preferred.
The successful candidate will possess a focused results orientation, be a strong problem solver with the ability to analyze, evaluate and design effective systems and procedures and will be adept at multi-tasking in a fast paced environment with multiple priorities. Must be able to handle confidential information with sensitivity and discretion. Excellent interpersonal skills with a high-quality service orientation. Exceptional verbal and written communication skills needed with sound judgment and ability to work collaboratively across all levels. Must be able to develop high levels of credibility and establish rapport and effective professional relationships with faculty and staff. Excellent interpersonal, organizational and time management skills. The successful candidate will be a quick learner with considerable initiative who possesses the ability to work independently and as part of a team. Knowledge of academic management processes is essential. Strong PC skills in MS Office, database management and related systems. Familiarity with Workday, Interfolio and other University systems a plus but not required.
