Summary
It is the mission of Student Orientation Programs to introduce new and prospective students and their families to the
university’s intellectual climate. In addition, we seek to improve the quality of the new student experience by providing assistance with
academic, personal, and social adjustment to the university, demonstrating the University of Oregon’s commitment to teaching, learning, and
scholarship. Through recruitment programs such as the Ambassador Program, Duck Preview, Duck Days and orientation events such as
IntroDUCKtion and Week of Welcome, Student Orientation Programs serve approximately 70,000 visitors, prospective students, new students, and
families.
Position Summary
The Coordinator for Pre-College Visit Programs serves as a member of Student Orientation
Programs. This position has significant impact on the achievement of the university’s recruitment goals because of its focus on the
development of long-term on- and off-campus pipeline programs, for grades 6-10, that serve first-generation, low-income, and
underrepresented students. Using strategic enrollment management strategies, the successful candidate will foster partnerships with area
schools and community-based organizations (CBOs) in the development of new mentorship initiatives that include university advocates,
volunteers, and student staff. The Coordinator collaborates with campus partners and community stakeholders to ensure the messages, facts,
and information about university programs and services is accurate and that the university’s stories are shared in an effective way during
the campus visit. Additionally, the coordinator is essential to the ongoing successful recruitment, selection, training and supervision of
the Ambassador, Multicultural Recruiters (MCRs), who will staff the on and off campus programs and events coordinated by the successful
candidate. Like all full-time staff on the campus visits team, the Coordinator independently develops and implements programs, events, and
training initiatives to meet the University’s recruitment goals. The position requires a significant amount of professional judgment and
will have a great deal of autonomy in regards to work planning; selection and training student staff and volunteer mentors; presenting the
university to tens of thousands of prospective student and community constituents, families, and campus organizations; and application of
university student employment policies. The Coordinator will directly supervise 30+ MCRs as well as some supervision of the daily operation
of visits for all 80+ student Ambassadors. Secondary responsibilities include additional travel on behalf of the university, and other
duties as assigned.
