The University of Notre Dame (ND.jobs) is accepting applications for a RCLC AmeriCorps Member serving with La Casa de Amistad (7 month position).

The mission of the Robinson Community Learning Center (RCLC) is to welcome community and Notre Dame partners that strengthen the Northeast Neighborhood of South Bend through relationship building and educational opportunities. By promoting innovation and excellence, the Center builds individual capacity and enhances existing systems throughout South Bend. The work of the RCLC addresses five goals to accomplish this mission: Hospitality, Education, Partnership, Civic Engagement, and Sustainability.
The RCLC places several full-time AmeriCorps members to serve at host-sites. This member will serve with La Casa de Amistad (LCDA)
The AmeriCorps member at La Casa de Amistad Youth Programs will serve directly in LCDA youth programs, specifically the K-5 program: Crece Conmigo and the Preschool Yo Puedo Leer located at our main building on South Michigan Street in South Bend.
Crece Conmigo (Grow with Me) is an elementary after-school enrichment program designed for students from kindergarten to 5th grade from local public, charter, and religious elementary schools in the Michiana area. The program offers age-appropriate academic tutoring, as well as cultural, art, social development and recreational activities in an interactive and welcoming environment. Students work with a passionate staff and volunteers from the community and local colleges and universities to help them achieve their academic goals and gain cultural awareness and appreciation.
Yo Puedo Leer (I Can Read) is La Casa’s preschool dual language program (Spanish/English) design for qualifying 3- to 5-year-olds. The program uses a bilingual and bicultural HighScope curriculum. Yo Puedo Leer serves children in our community with the goal of providing them with age-appropriate early childhood development opportunities and to help them acquired the necessary skills to transition successfully into kindergarten. Children’s knowledge is gained through active participatory learning and play in an inclusive and welcoming environment.
Service Position Summary: La Casa de Amistad’s Youth Program AmeriCorps member will share responsibility for coordinating and supervising children and volunteers in our Crece Conmigo and Preschool Programs. They will work one on one or in small groups with such students and volunteers. They will support the Crece Coordinator plan activities and put them into action. They will serve as academic tutor for elementary students and as a preschool support instructor in the preschool. As noted below, the position also entails a number of regular logistical responsibilities that must be performed reliably, consistently, and transparently. This is essential to running smoothly functioning programs.
Specific Responsibilities include:
AmeriCorps is a national service organization aimed at helping communities meet needs in areas including education by building the capacity of community organizations.
AmeriCorps positions are service positions, rather than traditional “jobs”.
The AmeriCorps term runs from January-July, 2024. During that time the AmeriCorps member is expected to complete 900 hours of service. On completion of the required hours the member receives an Education Award which can be used for future education or student loan payments.
Member also receive a monthly living allowance stipend in equal installments throughout their term of service.

Minimum Qualifications:
High School Diploma required. Bachelors Degree or some college preferred.Experience working with children or teens.Spanish-speaking a plus
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Excellent communication skills–both oral and written Interest in education, working with incarcerated adults, and community development Public speaking and the ability to teach others Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple projects at the same time Computer skills including Google Suite and social media Ability to work both independently and as part of a team Flexibility to work in a variety of settings Sensitivity, compassion, and listening skills required to work with a diverse audience including:o RCLC staff, LCDA staff, volunteers, and fellow AmeriCorps memberso Notre Dame and community partnerso Youth program participants and their families
Preferred Qualifications:
Bachelors Degree or some college preferred.Experience working with children or teens.Spanish-speaking a plus
