The Friends of the Museum Program Coordinator is the liaison between the Museum and the Friends Board of Directors, Museum members, and the general community. This staff member is integral in assisting the Museum in carrying out its mission to serve the diverse members of the greater area community with equity and inclusion and to follow the Museum’s strategic plan.
The Coordinator must be a highly motivated individual with the excellent organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills necessary to oversee the Friends membership and work closely with the Friends Board of Directors. They serve on all Friends Board committees.
Fund raising is a major responsibility of this staff position. This includes raising funds through Friends events and memberships to support the public education curators and their community art education programs. The 2023 membership campaign successfully increased the number of member households from 250 to over 700. The Coordinator must increase and retain these members with innovative and engaging programming and membership incentives. There are great opportunities to do so, considering the Museum’s location in the new arts gateway to campus and its DEAI efforts.
The Coordinator also organizes public art education programs for adults, families, and high school students, such as Art and Architecture tours, travel to regional museums, exhibition receptions, family programs, and the annual High School Art Day. Experience in event planning and management, budget administration, and marketing is required. Promotion for Friends events and programs is done in coordination and consultation with the Museum’s Director of Communications, and all social media and print drafts require the final approval of the Museum Director.
The Coordinator must know all current best professional museum membership practices and procedures. They must possess great customer relations skills and experience and be customer service oriented. Experience in attracting and retaining a membership base is highly preferred. This position supervises one part-time administrative assistant and assists them with daily office tasks. The Coordinator reports to the Associate Director and the Museum Director.
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelors degree in Business Administration, Nonprofit Administration, or an arts-related field is required.
The coordinator must be a highly motivated individual with excellent organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills.
A minimum of three years experience in a comparable professional position responsible for event planning and management, budget administration, and marketing is required.
Preferred Qualifications:
Professional experience in attracting and retaining a membership base is highly preferred.
