Department Summary:
The University of North Texas Press, a division of UNT Libraries, was established in1987 and is dedicated to the publication of scholarly, academic and general interest books, with an emphasis on Texana, music, military history, and multicultural topics. We are fully accredited members of the Association of University Presses. The output from UNT Press is approximately 20 books a year.

UNT has a highly diverse campus with a wide range of languages spoken in addition to English. Position Overview:
This is professional work requiring marketing research, writing, and implementing marketing promotional campaigns for UNT Press book publications, with supervision by the Director of UNT Press. Work involves the collection of information from multiple sources, application of marketing research, developing marketing plans based on such research, and presenting marketing plans to Press staff and authors. Budget oversight of marketing accounts required to implement these marketing plans. Other specific duties include writing of advertising copy, design and placement of ads, coordinating publicity and booksignings with authors, setting up author events and exhibit booths, arranging author media appearances on radio and television, mailing review copies, maintaining an extensive marketing reviewer database, sending books to award contests and exhibits, and writing newsletter articles and pitches to media.
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor’s Degree in related field and two years of experience in communications, marketing, advertising, or public relations; or any equivalent combination of experience, education, and training.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
• Thorough understanding of market segmentation, principles of marketing, integrated marketing communications principles and branding.
• Proficiency in MS Office and requisite publishing, graphic design and media tools.
• Ability to think creatively, organize tasks, work independently and meet deadlines.
• Considerable knowledge of Associated Press style.
• Ability to visually inspect products in multiple formats and assess and improve.
• Ability to coordinate and supervise the work of others.
• Proficiency in MS Office and requisite publishing and graphic design software.

Research promotional and marketing opportunities as books are launched; create marketing plan with publicity campaign, specific review venues, and award possibilities while managing account marketing budget; and present marketing plans to Press staff and authors for implementation .

Create targeted audience pitches and press releases of proper length, error free with clear, narrative explanation of book’s subject and appeal, and execute these pitches on phone, email, and via online social media.
o:
Work with authors to implement promotion by successfully coordinating plans and schedules with multiple authors without neglecting any single author; responding favorably to author queries on marketing. Proactively work with author and booksellers, program directors, and others to set up special book events and radio/tv/online appearances; procure specialty promo items for books such as posters; and attends events to assist author and sell books as needed.
o:
Maintain review copy database with proper coding, research new media contacts to add to database, and perform review copy mailouts and book award submissions properly and in a timely manner following book publication.
o:
Write articles and online posts to promote our books and authors and events; maintain information of author appearances for annual write-up of author events; write and design Press annual newsletter.
o:
Prepare page proof mailouts and sales kits, obtain blurbs during this stage of publication, and coordinate with Managing Editor for blurb placement on books.
o:
Supervise student workers and interns with marketing projects and delegate select projects to Admin Asst as needed; help answer phones and greet visitors.
o:
Reserve space, negotiate ad rates, and design with Adobe software all print and online advertisements following proper specs for journals, newspapers, magazines, and other publications.
o:
Serve as departmental representative at conferences, exhibits, and other events and set up and staff exhibit booth with books; prepare exhibit to travel to Director’s select exhibits; and send display copies to select co-operative exhibits.
