for this Position
UNCW’s Architectural and Construction Services oversees the design and construction of capital and energy
projects on campus and is seeking an engineering or architectural intern to mentor, train and supervise through various projects. Gain
critical thinking and leadership skills by working closely with experienced engineering professionals with real time on the job training.
Apply educational concepts of engineering and architecture while assisting to manage the design and construction of capital and energy
projects and reviewing the implementation of projects/plans according to codes and regulations. Projects are typically complex, and the
successful intern will learn organizational and planning skills, the ability to prioritize and to be flexible through different phases of
projects: as a designer is hired and a team is developed, a job is bid out and then construction is begun/completed. Learn the budget
process and time management skills of staying on plan/schedule, while balancing the needs of facility engineers, capital project managers
and the energy manager in their roles managing major campus projects and learn directly from their experience. Communication skills will be
enhanced as the intern learns to navigate the management of consulting teams of architects, engineers, and contractors. Work may require
public contact to explain standards and regulations or scope of work to campus stakeholders, which will help develop written and verbal
communication skills. Improve technical skills as the intern utilizes software including Excel, Bluebeam, Outlook and other related programs
and will learn to review plans and technical specifications for campus construction projects. Gain valuable work-related experience to add
to your resume and make marketable contacts in the industry that may be useful in the future.

Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit
Provides assistance in the overall planning, design
and construction management of both new and renovation capital improvement projects for the University. Manage the budgeting, design and
construction process of these projects.
The Architectural and Construction Services Department supports the Business Affairs Division
and the University mission by providing the highest quality, and most cost-effective services in facilities renovation and construction, and
facilities related studies and surveys. These services are available to all university divisions to assist them in meeting stated goals and
objectives, and to advance the University’s vision of the Master Plan. The position assists in managing the planning, design and execution
of capital projects.
