Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit |
In service of the University’s mission, Digital and Lifelong Learning works with units to support the development of digital programs and pedagogies, as well as other flexible and/or nontraditional learning experiences. We offer a variety of credit and professional (i.e., non-credit) programs through our unit and also provide support for programs across the University. In support of these programs, we provide strategy, coordination, and services to meet program needs, including but not limited to marketing, recruitment, program/course design and development, conference and event planning and support, and student/participant support. Through our programs and services, Digital and Lifelong Learning extends access to education for participants across the state and beyond and enables campus units to expand, share, and collaborate through support for their own research and educational programs.

Position Summary |
The Friday Conference Center is a part of Digital and Lifelong Learning, UNC-Chapel Hill’s dedicated resource for digital, flexible, and nontraditional learning. The Friday Conference Center provides modern meeting spaces and exceptional event services for a variety of educational purposes such as large, multi-day conferences, banquet receptions, small seminars and, professional development workshops. The Conference Center function is led by Conference Services and supported by several teams across Digital and Lifelong Learning.
The Conference Services Operations Manager reports to the Conference Services Director and supervises a team of operations coordinators within Conference Services. The Operations Manager is responsible for coordinating and liaising with conference center service groups to anticipate, adapt, and respond to day-of program delivery needs. Key areas that the Operations Manager is responsible for supporting: * Space/Venue Management – Assesses and advises on venue availability and layouts based on specific program needs, service delivery requirements, and overall program use of the building. Identifies opportunities and trends with space utilization and facility needs. |
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements |
Bachelor’s degree and one year of experience related to the area of assignment; or equivalent combination of training and experience. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.

Required Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience |
-Demonstrated experience in leading and developing teams.
-Experience within the hospitality and event planning sector. -Experience with EMS or similar reservation system software. -Experience working with banquet catering. |
Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience |
-3 years of event experience, preferably in a conference or hospitality venue setting.
-Previous supervisory experience of event teams and service providers. -Ability to communicate complex ideas efficiently and effectively to multiple stakeholders. -Clear written and verbal communications -Experience with diagraming software. -Familiarity with UNC or working within a higher education setting. |
