Classes provide rigorous and evidence-based content, and give students the opportunity to explore theory, learn intervention skills and engage in challenging dialogue with colleagues.
Position Summary:
This position may be eligible for a hybrid work arrangement that may include a partially remote work location, consistent with System Office policy. UNC Chapel Hill employees are generally required to reside within a reasonable commuting distance of their assigned duty station. If business needs change, an individual employee’s designation may be adjusted with a required minimum of ten (10) business days’ notice unless employee conduct or safety issues necessitate otherwise at the discretion of management.
The Behavioral Health Springboard (BHS) at the School of Social Work, University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill links current research to initiatives in mental health and substance use disorder treatment systems. BHS offers curricula development, technical assistance, program consultation, and face-to-face and online educational programs. Collaboration between the university and the community (local, regional/state, global) is mutually beneficial for the exchange of knowledge and resources in a context of partnership and reciprocity. These exchanges enrich scholarship and research; enhance curriculum, teaching and learning; prepare educated, engaged citizens; strengthen values and civic responsibility; address critical societal issues; and contribute to the public good. Our training resources, products, and experienced staff help organizations design effective service delivery systems and assist with the transitions needed to implement evidenced based practices for improved client outcomes and systems efficiencies.
BHS is seeking a highly skilled and knowledgeable Problem Gambling Program Specialists to provide program administration, technical assistance and implementation support to the NC Division of Health and Human Services (DHHS) statewide initiative to educate, train, and support the workforce serving adults and adolescents with a gambling disorder. This project involves collaboration with the Problem Gambling Program Administrator, Prevention Coordinator, and subject matter experts that will aid in supporting the needs of the workforce. This is a hybrid position which will require at least 40% in-person engagement at UNC Chapel Hill. These positions will require up to 25% travel to in-person training sites across NC. Selected candidate must have a valid driver’s license. This position will report to and receive task supervision from the BHS Director, Sarah Reives-Houston.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:
Relevant post-Baccalaureate degree required (or foreign degree equivalent); for candidates demonstrating comparable independent research productivity or comparable background in independent academic or instructional activities, will accept a relevant Bachelor’s degree (or foreign degree equivalent) and 3 or more years of relevant experience in substitution. This experience may be related to the direction/oversight of programs that focus the academic and research resources of a higher education institution towards community or regional issues.
Required Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience:
Ability to work both independently and collaboratively without immediate direct supervision
Ability to manage conflict and communicate effectively in varying workplace settings with School of Social Work faculty and staff
Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience:
* Master’s degree in social work, human services, public administration, psychology, public health, education or related field of study
* 1 year of professional experience working in behavioral health settings/programs that serve adults or adolescents with a gambling disorder
* At least 1 year of professional experience working in programs that educate/promote gambling prevention
* Experience using implementation science tools and strategies
* Experience using data to evaluate program effectiveness and develop a continuous improvement plans.
