Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit:
The Public Health Leadership Program is an interdisciplinary program offering a master’s degree and two active academic certificates. Our vision is to create public health leaders with the vision and ability to anticipate and solve future health challenges wherever they occur throughout the world. The Public Health Leadership Program offers a customized curriculum to meet the demands of busy practitioners in public health and medical care. We offer courses delivered through a combination of traditional classroom, online and hybrid formats, bolstered by practical, hands-on experience. In doing so, we create leaders who share a command of the latest technology and the most current public health approaches, who are adept at learning from their experiences, and who utilize these skills to create new opportunities for improvement.
Position Summary:
The Public Health Leadership Program (PHLP) desires a faculty member with leadership experience in empowering public health workers with strategic data, implementation, and system-thinking skills.
PHLP is recruiting for an open-rank faculty in the practice track, which is a fixed-term position to fulfill an important practice area for the School and Program. The person in this position is expected to develop and lead initiatives to provide training and technical assistance to the current public health workforce, building capacity and strengthening integrated systems within and across state and local public health agencies and community based organizations. The person in this position will collaborate with others on School-wide funding opportunities to support workforce development and demonstrate success in obtaining external funding.
Serving as a mentor to students is also expected.
The person in this position is to build a portfolio of funded work covering a substantial portion of their salary (the percent expected increases with rank) within three years. This may be done through a combination of grants and contracts to provide consultation, technical assistance, and educational opportunities for practitioners in the field.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:
Doctoral degree required (or expected to be conferred by the time of hire) or equivalent.
We are seeking applicants with experience in developing and leading training and technical assistance to the current public health workforce, building capacity and strengthening integrated systems within and across state and local public health agencies and community based organizations. The successful applicant will also have a proven track record in securing funding from diverse sources.
Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience:
Preferred candidate will have doctoral training in a public health related discipline, or an MPH or other related public health master’s degree and a doctorate degree in a related field.
Teaching experience at the graduate level is preferred.
Work experience in a public health practice setting (such as national, state, local governmental public health agencies; public policy or advocacy-based settings; community based organizations; or other human service institutions) is strongly preferred.
Campus Security Authority Responsibilities:
This position is designated as a Campus Security Authority in accordance with the Clery Act. This position will be required to report Clery crimes to the Clery Compliance Manager and complete annual training about reporting responsibilities.
