ROLE of the POSITION
Reporting to the Assistant Director of the Processing, the Verification Coordinator assists in managing the workflows for the internal processes surrounding financial aid verification and other regulations surrounding the review of FAFSA filers for eligibility for Federal Title IV Aid.
The role of the Verification Coordinator is important both for maintaining federal compliance and for serving students. Verification is among the greatest barriers to a student’s pursuit of financial aid, and ultimately program completion, and the Financial Aid Verification Coordinator organizes and supervises the Verification team to facilitate this process for selected students in a timely, compliant, and compassionate manner. Monitoring and establishing new workflows (as appropriate) and recognizing bottlenecks and appropriate benchmarking in processes in order to reduce the amount of time for verification and other eligibility checks to be completed in order for awards to be disbursed to students and for UNLV to be compliant with Federal guidelines is an important part of this position. Approximately 75% of all UNLV students receive some form of financial aid, totaling $275 million annually.
Additionally, the Coordinator assists in creating and maintaining business process guides for verification processes in both PeopleSoft and SalesForce (SF), and is responsible for the training of the analyst team on those processes. This position is responsible for aid processes with higher level complexity and risk for audit findings, including second level of verification review; and communicates with students and/or parents as appropriate and as escalations through processing require it both by phone and/or written communication (SF, email). The Coordinator serves as the primary contact for any external or third party organizations conducting verification review on behalf of or in partnership with UNLV.
In concert with the Financial Aid Verification team, the Coordinator communicates and assists students through the verification process, ensuring documentation is accurate and complete, as well as interfacing with other office and aid-related constituents on behalf of the student. The Coordinator collaborates with the Senior Financial Aid Verification Analyst regarding student appeals, verification business process development, and providing current verification process training to Verification Analysts. The Coordinator also attends outreach activities where they can meet with prospective and current students and parents, explain financial aid processes and review student accounts for eligibility and award status.
