The Assistant Director serves as the daily operational supervisor for all front-line services through telephone, email, and front counter
interactions. This role is also responsible for leadership, management, and supervision as well as recommendations for hiring and
termination decisions for front line full time and student staff. This role conducts oversight and implementation of scheduling and coverage
and daily questions and interactions serving students and families on behalf of the functional offices supported by Husker Hub. The
Assistant Director manages three full-time staff and student worker staff (approximately 20-30 students), by hiring, training, creating, and
maintaining the work schedules for the student workers who work at the front counter and in the call center and establishing standardized
responses, routines, and coordination for remarkable service. This role serves and coordinates service for frontline responses to
scholarship and financial aid eligibility review, adjustments, and award processes. While this position does not regularly perform these
processes, they are involved in collaborating with functional staff who do in order to answer questions and explain the processes to
students and families. This position does assist with aid eligibility review, adjustments, and award processing with regard to emergency
financial assistance for students in which they will make discretionary decisions and judgments at the approval of the Director of the
functional office.
Additionally, this role coordinates continuous cross-training of services from the functional offices of bursar,
scholarships and financial aid, student accounts and the university registrar for support specialists and student staff. Assists with
advising of both prospective and currently enrolled undergraduate, graduate and professional students regarding enrollment, scholarships and
financial aid, student accounts and bursar services.
Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree plus 2 years of customer service
experience or evidence of strong interpersonal skills required. Must have experience in financial aid, registrar, student billing, or other
higher education business related functions.
Preferred Qualifications: Master’s degree preferred. Experience in a college
or university financial aid office or comparable setting preferred. Public speaking experience desirable. Supervisory experience preferred.
Computer proficiency with word processing, spreadsheets, databases and presentation software helpful.
