The Manufacturing Lab Supervisor is responsible for safety training and development; managing safety
both by users of the shop and of the physical facilities, equipment, and processes; security; inventory and resource control; and providing
leadership to student workers. The position develops and provides instruction; implements and administers policies and protocols; and
collaborates with colleagues internal and external to the University. The position will also serve as a point of contact for several student
organization competition teams.
Key Responsibilities include:
Coach students in safe approaches to complicated
manufacturing products and processes. Demonstrate proper equipment functions to machine operators.
Perform regular maintenance of
equipment and machinery, including cleaning, lubricating, and adjusting parts; observation and testing, repairs and replacements; and
follow-up inspections and testing.
Assist student competition teams with machining needs and access. Provide
design and
fabrication assistance to the teams.
Monitor and enforce safety procedures and protocols, follow established safety procedures and
protocols, and coordinate the training schedules.
Schedule and execute major equipment rebuilds and procurements. Keep records of
repairs and maintenance performed
Maintain an accurate inventory of shop and safety consumables, including personal protective
equipment. Anticipate and procure fabrication material needs for Design Teams.
Assist in managing door security and resource access.
Enforce completion of established training requirements for students and users to gain entry as well as use the machines and
equipment.
Provide leadership to students. Make decisions related to prioritization of limited space, equipment, and machinery and
integrate the students’ technical and research needs into decisions.

Salary Range: $50,367 – $64,000

Minimum
Qualifications
A Bachelor’s degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience and at least 2 years of
experience from which comparable knowledge and skills can be acquired is necessary
Preferred
Qualifications
Supervision, instruction and Manufacturing knowledge and application is preferred.
Journeymen Machinist
and/or 3 years machine and hand tool experience.
CNC experience is preferred.
