3P Lab (Plasma Power Propulsion Lab) at the University of Minnesota is a cutting-edge research facility
focused on plasma, energy and combustion research. We are dedicated to advancing knowledge and innovation in the field, working on projects
that push the boundaries of combustion science and energy propulsion technologies. We are actively seeking a laboratory manager to work with
Prof. Biswas, further enhancing the research initiatives at 3P Lab and making significant contributions to impactful scientific endeavors.

*Duties/responsibilities
The lab manager will
provide support for day-to-day research operations across numerous projects and will participate in proposals writing, with their major
responsibilities falling into three distinct categories.
60% – Perform high level experimental, theoretical, and numerical research,
collaborate with interdisciplinary team within the University of Minnesota and partner universities and industry.
30% – Presentation,
publication, and proposal preparation, support the faculty supervisor in mentoring graduate students and lab technician research team
members. This will include advice on technical questions, and data analysis. They will support the research team in operating with
efficiency, including progress updates, organization and reporting of data and results, meetings, and lab communications. They will also be
responsible for the organization and management of laboratories under faculty mentor’s supervision.
* Help manage day-to-day operations
across 10+ lab members and 2 lab spaces
* Manage new employee on-boarding and lab space access
* Coordinate and manage general lab
meetings
* Participate in research team meetings, as appropriate
* Participate in managing lab budgets
* Supervise or manage
workflow of lab technicians and undergraduate lab assistants
* Support research and data analysis activities, as appropriate
*
Establish and manage lab data archiving processes
* Update and manage the group website
* Identify opportunities to improve lab
organization, efficiency, and culture
10% – Manage lab safety, documentation, training, data, protocol, and administrative
processes.
* Oversee stock, maintenance schedule, and general up-keep across lab spaces
* Manage lab equipment and supply
purchases
* Manage, coordinate, and track lab safety and training processes
* Establish and enforce necessary lab policies
*
Establish and manage a system for laboratory protocol development and tracking
* Coordinate the lab’s waste disposal processes
* Other
duties as assigned
Qualifications
*Required qualifications include:
* Master’s degree in
Mechanical/Aerospace/Electrical/Controls Engineering or other closely related engineering field and two years related experiences or BS/BA
in Mechanical/Aerospace/Electronics Engineering or other closely related engineering field and 4 years related experience
* Experience in
plasma science, plasma, optical/laser diagnostics, and combustion research
* Organized with a high level of attention to detail
*
Demonstrated record of reliability and accountability
* Functions well in a collaborative team environment
* Experience working in an
experimental lab or industrial setting
* Experience managing technicians and/or junior researchers
* Experience contributing on
publications and proposals
* Excellent written and verbal communication skills
*Preferred qualifications include:
* PhD in
Mechanical/Aerospace/Electronics Engineering or other closely related engineering field with at least 2 years of academic / industry work
experience with substantial research publication record
* Grants management experience
