About the Job

The demand for skilled IT professionals continues to grow in
all sectors of our economy. The Information Technology Infrastructure (ITI) degree program has seen this growth and has become the largest
undergraduate degree program in the College of Continuing & Professional Studies (CCAPS). Students are attracted to the program because of
our outstanding adjunct faculty, who bring their industry knowledge and experience into the classroom. Our faculty teach in a variety of IT
Infrastructure subject areas: Networking, Security, Data Science, Data Management, Systems, and DevOps. We are currently seeking an adjunct
faculty/instructor for INET 3011W: Social Impact of Information Technology. 

INET 30111W is a 3-credit, 15-week writing-intensive
online course that is offered in the fall and spring terms. This course is required for all ITI students. In this course, students will gain
a greater understanding of the profound and broad-reaching impact of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) on society. This course
asks students to think critically about the ethical decision-making that goes into ICT activities and their impact within and beyond the ICT
world. What are the ethical decisions that individuals make when designing new software or applications? What sorts of problems and
competing interests can arise during work in organizational teams or across an industry, and how can they be resolved? More fundamentally,
what impact does ICT, along with the ethical decisions made by those working in the field, have on the larger world-the communities in which
it is deployed, the environment in which it operates, and the governments and economies in which it plays an ever-increasing role? To
address these and other related questions, INET 3011Wl requires students to examine ICT’s impact from three different perspectives: (1) the
individual decision-maker; (2) the team or organizational dynamic; and (3) the stakeholders at the social, and even global,
level.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

Instructors must have high-level professional experience and expertise in information
technology infrastructure and computer science relevant to the current ITI curriculum. Responsibilities include the following:

1. Deliver course content, with ability to clearly articulate in various modes: classroom, remote, hybrid, or fully online, depending on
   class.  Be aware of and promote program and course outcomes.
2. Evaluate and grade student work (labs, assignments, exams).
3. Hold weekly office hours that are responsive to student schedules.
4. Participate in regular meetings:  twice-yearly faculty
   meetings, professional development workshops.
5. Understand and apply University of Minnesota policies to student- and course-related
   issues, with support from program staff and University resources.
6. Participate in continuing education in specific field of
   knowledge to ensure delivery of leading-edge content to prepare students for professional work in industry.
7. Carry out
   self-evaluation each semester leading to continuous improvement. 
8. Reflect upon and evaluate course material each semester to
   identify needs for revision to content areas or assignments.  Make minor changes; document more extensive needs for review by the faculty
   director. 

This is a part-time teaching position. 

INET Teaching Specialists report to the faculty director of the ITI
program and are typically employed on a semester-by-semester basis to teach at least twice in an academic year.

Qualifications

Required:

1. Bachelor’s degree in a field closely related to information
   technology infrastructure.
2. Ten or more years of professional experience in a field directly related to information technology
   infrastructure.
3. Subject matter expertise in at least 2-3 different areas of IT.
4. 1-2 years teaching/training/coaching
   experience.
5. Demonstrated knowledge and skill in diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) in professional
   settings.

Preferred:

1. Master’s degree in a field closely related to information technology infrastructure.
2. Eight or
   more years of professional experience in a field directly related to information technology infrastructure.
3. 3+ years teaching
   experience in higher education.

Desired:

1. Ph.D. or terminal degree in a field closely related to information technology
   infrastructure or in adult higher education.
2. Six or more years of professional experience in a field directly related to
   information technology infrastructure.
3. 4+ years teaching experience in higher education that includes online courses.
4. A
   demonstrated understanding of pedagogy that blends theoretical concepts and professional applications.
