Responsibilities
* Magnetic Resonance Angiography (MRA): Data acquisition and Image processing in humans (controls and patients) at High (3T) and Ultra-High (7T and 10.5T) magnetic field.
* Development and optimization of High-Resolution MRI protocols, including Time-of-Flight, 4D Flow Phase encoding and Vessel Wall imaging, with an emphasis on accelerated/sparse acquisition (Compressed Sensing, GRAPPA, Low-Rank, etc.)
* Reconstruction and visualization of parametric maps derived from 4D Flow MRA (Blood flow velocity vectors, Wall Shear Stress, etc.)
* Reconstruction and visualization of morphological characteristics of normal and pathological vascular structures (vessel walls, aneurysms, arteriovenous malformations)
* Comparison between in-vivo measurements obtained in actual patient vasculature and in-vitro measurements obtained in 3D replica of the same vessels
Job description:
The candidate will work in a rich, multi-disciplinary environment (MR methods, Interventional Neuroradiology, Neurosurgery), in collaboration with experts in fluid dynamic physics.
Dr. Jagadeesan is a Neurointerventional Radiologist who is investigating the physiopathology of cerebral aneurysms, arteriovenous malformations, and carotid artery diseases. Besides state-of-the-art vascular imaging resources in the Neuroradiology Department and at the Center for Magnetic Resonance Research (CMRR), Dr. Jagadeesan’s lab provides access to a streamlined process, developed with experts in Mechanical Engineering, where vascular lesions imaged in-vivo (e.g. brain aneurysms) are 3D printed and embedded in dynamic fluid circuitry, allowing for direct comparison between in-vivo and in-vitro measurements.
In this project, the candidate will be co-mentored by Dr. B. Jagadeesan, Dr. P.F. Van de Moortele (MR Physics and Methods), and will interact with a collaborating team (Mechanical Engineering in Fluid Dynamics) led by Dr. O. Amily at the University of Toledo, MI.
MR acquisitions will take place at the CMRR, University of Minnesota, a renowned pioneering center in High Field MR methods and engineering. The CMRR hosts 6 human Siemens scanners (three @3T, two @7T, one @10.5T) as well as two Bruker animal MR scanners (9.4T and 16.4T).
Required Qualifications:
* Ph.D. or Equivalent in Physics, Engineering, Computer Science or Biomedical Engineering
* Background in MR physics
* Experience in Signal or Image processing
* Programming skills (at least one of the following languages: Matlab, C++, Python)
* Contact information for two academic and/or professional references
Preferred Qualifications
* MR sequence programming
* Some training in Fluid Dynamics
