This is a 12 month, 40 hour per week, benefits eligible, Civil Service position
Rate of Pay: $19.02 – $26.15 per hour
The
Office of Diversity & Inclusion works to empower students while collaborating with staff, faculty, alumnx, and community partners to
implement programs and services that support the University’s commitment to inclusivity, equity, and social justice. In addition, the
Office of Diversity & Inclusion staff develops and implements programs and services that affirm and support the retention and graduation
of Black/African American, Asian/Pacific American, Latinx/Chicanx, international, and/or queer and trans+/gender non-conforming students.
The Program Coordinator reports to the Director of the Office of Diversity & Inclusion within the division of Student Life at the
University of Minnesota Duluth.
Coordinate Pre-College Outreach Program (40%)
Describe Duties and Responsibilities
●
Work with the staff in the Office of Diversity & Inclusion (ODI) to develop short and long-range goals and stated intended outcomes for
the program
● Coordinate all aspects of ODI campus visit program, including developing relationships with schools and community youth
organizations/agencies
● Link and coordinate with other PreK-12 programs across the UMD campus
● Support, coordinate, and help
to publicize outreach efforts from the collegiate units
● Provide opportunities for youth mentoring program with ISD 709 and other
community youth organizations/agencies
● Support where appropriate the various mentoring programs in ODI
● Work with ODI staff
to develop a way to track the youth served by programs
● Develop and coordinate parent/family engagement program targeted at K -12
parents/families
● Work with the director to manage the budget, especially the recruitment budget.
● Evaluate and document the
effectiveness of programs.
● Coordinate campus visits in collaboration with the UMD Office of Admissions
● Assist Admissions
and other appropriate University personnel involved in the recruitment of underrepresented students including Asian, Latino/Chicano, African
American, and GLBT students.
Coordinate Student Ambassadors Program (20%)
● Recruit and train student volunteers who
participate in the ODI Ambassadors Programs.
● Supervise Ambassador Student Intern
● Recruit and train student volunteers who
participate in the student of color panels
● Coordinate all Ambassador, SOC Panel and Multicultural Center visit (including UST1000)
requests
Provide Direct Support to Asian/Pacific American Association Organization (APAA) and the Hmong Living in Unity and Balance
(HLUB) in Their Leadership and Community Development Endeavors (20%)
● Help facilitate student involvement and leadership development
of Asian/Pacific American Association and Hmong Living in Unity and Balance.
● Coordinate, supervise, and support a multicultural
leadership development program
● Work with organizations to address Asian/Pacific American students’ equity and diversity
issues on campus.
● Serve as the point of contact for Asian/Pacific American Association and Hmong Living in Unity and Balance and
collaborate with ODI mentors to provide seamless services to other student organizations.
● Assist Asian/Pacific American Student
Association and Hmong Living in Unity and Balance in collaborating with other Multicultural student organizations.
● Coordinate an
annual leadership development retreat for Asian/Pacific American Student Association and Hmong Living in Unity and Balance
● Assist
Asian/Pacific American Student Association and Hmong Living in Unity and Balance with getting connected to appropriate living and learning
communities in the residence halls as well as other engagement opportunities on and off campus.
● Ensure involvement of Asian/Pacific
American Student Association and Hmong Living in Unity and Balance in the Multicultural Welcome Dinner, welcome week activities and the End
of the Year Recognition Reception.
● Assist Asian/Pacific American Student Association and Hmong Living in Unity and Balance with
preparing and submitting student service fee proposals.
Provide Direct Advising To Students in the Office of Diversity &
Inclusion (20%)
● Advise, counsel, and mentor students with academic, career, and personal objectives.
● Track each semester
and annually the academic achievement and retention through graduation of students.
While fulfilling their job responsibilities, all
ODI staff are expected to:
● Prepare annual reports on programs and activities.
● Assist director with various special
projects and assignments.
● Work actively to create a positive and productive work environment.
● Be effective spokespeople
for their area/unit with others both inside and outside ODI.
● Demonstrate a commitment to continuous improvement.
●
Demonstrate a substantial knowledge of issues regarding diversity.
● Understand and support teamwork in the workplace.
● Some
evening and weekend hours will be required.
● Other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications:
· Bachelor’s
degree in a related field and one year of related experience or, an equivalent combination of relevant education and experience totaling
five years may be substituted.
· Ability to effectively demonstrate an understanding of the needs and concerns of Students of
Color and their families; including first-generation college students
· Demonstrate commitment to diversity.
·
Demonstrated excellent customer service, public relations, and communication skills in both interpersonal and group settings.
· Ability to work independently and collaboratively.
Preferred Qualifications:
· Master’s degree in
Education, Psychology, or related field and at least one year of experience in higher education, student retention, and recruitment.
· Experience with Image Now and PeopleSoft.
· Demonstrated excellent customer service, public relations, and
communication skills in both interpersonal and group settings.
· Experience and knowledge of issues concerning communities of
Asian/Pacific descent (Hmong, and other Southeast Asian communities) in a predominantly white campus.
· Experience working
with ethnically diverse and underrepresented populations.
