Summary
We are looking for a highly motivated, highly competent, individual for a full-time Research Lab Specialist Intermediate position in the Baldridge lab, a basic research laboratory housed in the Department of Biological Chemistry at the University of Michigan Medical School. The applicant will participate in general laboratory group maintenance along with the majority of their time on research projects, both independent and in collaboration. He/she/they will work closely in a team on research that is focused on protein-quality control systems and membrane protein biology using yeast and mammalian tissue culture. Contributions to the research projects will result in co-authorship on publications from the lab.

Responsibilities*
Design, perform experiments, analyze, and interpret data. Research will be primarily focused on targeted protein degradation technologies and their applications in cells.
Supervise, train, and orient temporary lab staff, undergraduate and graduate student in equipment operation and laboratory techniques. Extensive knowledge of operation of lab equipment, including limitations and outcomes. Contribution to overall scientific efforts of the laboratory by advising, consulting and assisting laboratory staff as needed.
Placement and management of lab stocks and reagents. Will be expected to provide lab management support in the form of routine laboratory maintenance (inventory-keeping, preparation of stocks and buffers, etc.), record keeping, and compliance with University of Michigan regulations. Execution of lab policies, ensuring compliance in lab safety and OSEH regulations.
Perform statistical analysis, literature searches, write-up results for publications and generate ideas for grant applications.
Required Qualifications*
Bachelor’s degree in Biology or closely related field, with 4-5 years relevant research experience. A Master or PhD degree is strongly preferred. Other requirements include excellent oral and written communication skills in English, effective judgment and problem solving and a willingness to work within a group. A successful candidate will be highly motivated, able to efficiently multi-task, able to work independently and committed to academic biomedical research. Meticulous attention to detail and the ability to prioritize and manage time are crucial skills for this position. Some evening and weekend work may be required.
Background Screening
