General Summary of Position:The Director for Assessment and Planning will lead the Office of Assessment and Planning (OAP) to support and advance the holistic student success goals of UMass Boston, driven by our ten-year university-wide strategic plan, For The Times. The Director, with the support of the Assessment and Research Analyst, will drive learning assessment, institutional effectiveness, and policy evaluation for improving learning outcomes. The role will encompass coordinating comprehensive outcomes assessment plans for academic units and degree programs, such as Academic Quality and Development (AQUAD), academic unit effectiveness, and ad hoc research projects with the Office of Institutional Research (OIR) and other relevant organizational units. The Director will serve on and support the work of the University Assessment Council. The Director will plan and implement assessment activities that are consistent with best practices in the field and will satisfy expectations for regional accreditation as well as specialized accreditation.The Director will be responsible for working collaboratively in coordinating comprehensive campus-wide efforts to assess institutional effectiveness at the university, college, and department levels; will act as a resource to faculty in developing learning outcomes assessment processes and programs, as well as assisting administrative staff in developing programs to assess effectiveness; and will provide statistical and methodological expertise to campus offices required to collect, analyze, and interpret data, particularly for assessment purposes. The Director also has a significant focus of responsibility on retention and graduation analysis and reporting at the undergraduate and graduate levels, providing data and analysis and policy proposals in support of improving university completion rates.Examples of Duties:
Minimum Qualifications:Earned doctorate in Educational Research and Evaluation, Sociology, Psychology, Public Policy or other research based social science field and a minimum of five-seven (5-7) years of evaluation/assessment is required. A Master’s degree in one of the above fields and a minimum of ten years of increasingly responsible experience in higher education evaluation/assessment can be substituted for the required experience. Demonstrated experience with assessment practices, evaluation research design, development of data collection instruments, with qualitative and quantitative data analysis required. Experience with PeopleSoft, SQL, and OBIEEE preferred.
