Department Information
The Department of Resident Life serves a highly diverse population of approximately 12,500
undergraduate students living in traditional residence halls, apartments, and suites including some public/private partnership apartment
communities. About 46% of all resident students are enrolled in twelve living-learning programs covering a wide array of academic areas.
Resident Life employs a diverse workforce of 88 full-time and graduate staff members and about 600 undergraduate student staff members. The

Position Summary
The Assistant Director for Finance and Business Services is responsible for maintenance of the
overall budget for the Department of Resident Life, including approximately $81M in annual revenues, undergraduate public-private
partnership ground rent revenues, and a departmental operating budget of approximately $20M. Additionally, the position is responsible for
oversight of multiple financial functions and business services including: purchasing, travel management, scholarship and grants funding
allocations, bill payment, and contracts. The position supports the Director of Resident Life and works collaboratively with the Associate
Director of Residential Facilities for Financial Services on the annual residence hall room rate setting process and facilitates the
transfer of funds to the Department of Residential Facilities to support their expenses.
The Assistant Director actively demonstrates
an appreciation for and promotion of inclusion, diversity, equity, and justice in all areas of job functions, including interpersonal
actions, in engagements with staff, students and UMD families, and through participation in ongoing training and development
sessions to expand their skills, capacities, and competencies.

Qualifications:
Education:
Bachelor’s degree in finance, accounting, business or related field.
Experience:
Minimum 6 years of progressively responsible experience in financial management and business/administrative
services.
