Applications are invited for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position at the University of Maine (UMaine) in the Department of
Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE, ece.umaine.edu) through a position that is held jointly between ECE (75%) and the UMaine Advanced
Research Computing Security and Information Management or ARCSIM (25%). The ECE Department will serve as a tenure home for this faculty
position.
Applicants must have a strong research background and teaching interest in High-Performance Computing. We welcome
exceptional applications from areas closely related to high-performance or distributed/parallel computing: Hardware accelerators (e.g., FPGA
& GPU), Trustworthy AI, Big data and its storage, Data security, Scientific visualization, and Emerging computing (e.g., Nueromorphic,
Photonic, and Quantum). Candidates should be passionate about computing education, both in a formal classroom setting and through informal
outreach to the broader community including industrial outreach and K-12 outreach.
About ECE and ARCSIM: With its excellent faculty
complement and state-of-the-art instructional labs, ECE offers ABET accredited BS degrees in Electrical Engineering and Computer
Engineering. ECE also offers 4+1, 4+2, MS, and PhD programs and has access to excellent research facilities including a new GPU cluster in
Barrows 112. ARCSIM supports the research mission of UMaine by providing technical support through a broad portfolio of services to academic
departments & research centers.
Candidates are expected to build a creative R&D program that leads to externally sponsored
funding, high impact scholarly publications, and training of MS/PhD students on graduate research. Candidates should contribute to teaching
excellence at undergraduate and graduate levels (e.g. Computer architecture, C/Python programming, AI/GPU computing, HPC, Senior design,
etc.) This position entails 50% teaching/50% research and active engagement in service to profession, to UMaine and to Maine.
The
candidate must have a PhD in Computer Engineering or a closely related field by the start date and a strong research record. A record of
teaching and/or postdoctoral experience is preferred but not required. Expressed future interest or demonstrated past experience that help
the successful candidate in contributing to UMaine’s DIE mission is an asset.
