Position Title: Energy Institute of Louisiana: Research Engineer-Aquatic Plant Biochemical Conversion Specialist

Responsibilities:
The position will evaluate processing
methods to extract and/or concentrate chemicals and fuels from aquatic plants. The project will require extensive knowledge of analytical
methods for analyzing biomass constituents and resulting fluids. Preliminary design and review of process designs is required. Mass and
energy balances must be utilized along with knowledge of preliminary techno-economic analyses of candidate processes will be required.
Working knowledge of digestion and adsorption via coursework and experience lab methods is a plus. The position will research the potential
production of commercial products from aquatic plant species, mainly nuisance plants. The position will require periodic travel across the
State of Louisiana and to regional/national conferences to present and learn about developing processes.
Qualifications:
The position requires a BS degree in Chemical Engineering with coursework beyond the BS
considered a strong positive.
The ideal candidate is very familiar with the conversion of plant materials into chemicals and fuels
along with the cultivation of aquatic plants. Experience with presenting technical information is needed along with summarizing technical
information into concise summary reports. The position also requires someone with proven publishing skills for peer-reviewed papers in
archival journals. Additionally, knowledge of analytical methods associated with both the cultivation if aquatic plants and extraction of
chemicals from plant biomass is required. Excellent verbal and written skills are a must. Past publications in aquatic plants are a strong
plus.
