DESCRIPTION: The University of
Louisiana at Lafayette, Civil Engineering Department invites applications and nominations for the 9-month tenure track position of Assistant
Professor with specialization in structural engineering. A tenure-track faculty member for this position is expected for the instruction of
the analysis and design of structural systems, and to develop strong funded research programs that address structural related issues. All
faculty members participate in departmental, service, and undergraduate student advising activities. Candidates are expected to develop a
robust academic record, be active educators in their fields, serve as a mentor to students, work with colleagues to assess and improve
curricula, conduct research and/or creative works in respective area of specialization, and to demonstrate institutional citizenship through
active engagement at the department, college, university, community, and professional levels. The Civil Engineering Department is fully ABET
accredited and offers degrees at the undergraduate and graduate levels.
ADMINISTRATIVE UNIT: The
Department of Civil Engineering is one of six departments in the College of Engineering at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette. The
department has a very strong ABET accredited undergraduate program and a growing graduate program. Annual research expenditures in the
department average between $1M to $2M per year, with current external research projects of over $10M. The current primary focus research
areas are transportation, water resource and environmental issues, infrastructure, and the built environment. The College of Engineering at
the University of Louisiana at Lafayette has over 1600 students, as of fall 2022, and offers B.S., M.S., and Ph.D. degrees in all
engineering departments.
The University is the largest in the University of Louisiana System with about 850 faculty members and
over 19,000 students, including undergraduates, graduates, and non-degree seekers. The University is designated by the Carnegie Foundation,
as an R1 University - “Research University with Very High Research Activity.”

Qualifications:
QUALIFICATIONS: We seek an outstanding applicant with a
background in Structural Engineering. Candidates must have a Ph.D. in Civil Engineering or closely related field. Candidates must
demonstrate excellent communication skills and a strong commitment to excellence in teaching, research, and student mentoring. The
successful candidate is expected to develop and maintain a strongly funded research program and collaborate, as needed, with
multi-disciplinary groups of faculty and professionals. Additional consideration will be given to candidates with expertise and interest in
interdisciplinary research that contributes to enhancing the resiliency of urban communities and their infrastructure systems, and to the
impacts of coastal natural hazards and climate change. Areas of interest include but are not limited to coastal resiliency, wind and
hydrodynamic loads, modeling applications of natural hazards, risk and resilience assessment, remote sensing and applications of AI
and machine learning to structural systems.
