Job Summary
The University of Kentucky is seeking a full-time, tenure-track Assistant Professor of Horn to join our outstanding faculty in the UK School of Music for Fall 2022. Our new colleague will continue to develop a thriving Horn studio with a national reputation at both undergraduate and graduate levels of instruction. Candidates should provide evidence of a commitment to diversity, inclusion, and equity in both recruitment activities and studio and classroom settings and articulate a vision for ensuring the well-being of students within the UK School of Music. Candidates should demonstrate a successful record of recruitment, teaching, performance, and professional integrity. Teaching duties will include individual studio instruction at all levels, high brass methods, Horn ensemble, and Horn studio class. Brass faculty members also assist with advising and graduate thesis committee work in the performance divisions. Performance responsibilities may include participation in the UK Faculty Brass Quintet and/or UK McCracken Wind Quintet.
The successful candidate will be expected to build a creative and research profile consistent with School of Music standards in performance areas; participate in shared governance within the School of Music, the College of Fine Arts, and the University, as well as the professional community; and establish and maintain positive relationships with secondary school band directors and private horn/brass instructors throughout the region that lead to excellent recruitment and retention of students within the UK School of Music. Tenured faculty in the School of Music may be asked to serve a term as Director of Undergraduate or Graduate Studies, depending upon the needs of the School. Funding to support horn students includes undergraduate and graduate scholarships.
The School of Music has over 50 full-time faculty, with an enrollment of over 400 students. The School of Music offers baccalaureate, master’s, and doctoral degrees in music performance, music education, musicology/ethnomusicology, and theory/composition, as well as a master’s degree in music therapy.
