Job Summary
The University of Kentucky Department of Theatre and Dance invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor of Acting to begin August 2022. The successful candidate will: teach beginning, intermediate, and advanced acting courses; have a proven ability to teach B.A. students in the Stanislavski System; have an ability to direct and coach actors at the undergraduate level; and assist with departmental recruitment activities. As a faculty member in a Research I Institution, they will be expected to maintain an active profile of creative activity and/or scholarly research, innovative and skilled teaching, institutional service, and effective collaboration within the department.
An MFA or equivalent terminal degree in Theatre with a concentration in Acting and/or Directing is required. Applicants should have a record of accomplishments in performing, directing, and/or publishing along with a commitment to participate in the process of service, planning, organizing, and decision-making. The ability to participate as a director in the Mainstage productions of the department and aptitude to instruct courses such as Black Theatre Workshop and/or Social Action Theatre is required. Knowledge of current trends and transformations in the professional landscape and theatre pedagogy, along with excellent organizational and communication skills is essential to this position. Prior teaching experience as instructor of record at the college level is highly encouraged.
The Department of Theatre and Dance has approximately 170 majors and 105 minors enrolled in its degree programs in both Theatre and Dance and offers Certificates in Musical Theatre and Filmmaking: Production and Dramatic Writing within the College of Fine Arts. Our program is NAST accredited, with a robust season of five main stage productions including a musical and annual dance concert, and an active student-produced studio season.
