UH Hilo, Student Affairs, Educational Assistance Center (KIPUKA), position number 96908T, full-time, federal funds, temporary to begin
approximately June 2023, pending position clearance and availability of funds. Temporary position, renewal contingent upon satisfactory work
performance, availability of funds, and program needs.
Duties: Under the general supervision of the Student
Development Coordinator of Kipuka Native Hawaiian Student Center, provide direct academic and career support for Native Hawaiian students in
consultation with relevant units in the UH Hilo Division of Student Affairs. Conduct, and coordinate programming to support students in
career exploration, research, and post-graduation support workshops and activities. Conduct, coordinate, and evaluate programs, workshops,
and activities. Monitors, collects data, and evaluates the engagement and participation of students, administrators, faculty and staff and
maintains written and electronic records of program information. Outreach to and collaborate with academic and support programs at UH Hilo.
Make referrals to campus agencies for additional support services. Hires, trains, supervises, and evaluates peer mentors to assist
implementation of programs and activities. Attends conferences, workshops and represents the program in public forums, meetings, and
conferences, etc. Works in multiple work settings and maintains a variable work schedule including nights, weekends and or holiday hours, as
directed or required. Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications: Possession of a baccalaureate degree
in any or related field and 3 year(s) of progressively responsible professional experience with responsibilities for career exploration or
student support services in a university or college. Considerable working knowledge of principles, practices and techniques in the field of
career exploration or student support services in a public university or college as demonstrated by the broad knowledge of the full range of
pertinent standard and evolving concepts, principles and methodologies. Considerable working knowledge and understanding of applicable
federal and state laws, rules, regulations and theories and systems associated with Hawaiian educational programs, activities and resources.
Demonstrated ability to resolve wide ranging complex problems through the use of creative reasoning and logic to accurately determine the
cause of the problems and the resolution of the problems in an effective, innovative and timely manner. Demonstrated ability to interpret
and present information and ideas clearly and accurately in writing, verbally and by preparation of reports and other materials.
Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external organizations, groups, team
leaders and members, and individuals. Demonstrated ability to operate a personal computer and apply word processing software. For
supervisory work, demonstrated ability to lead subordinates, manage work priorities and projects, and manage employee relations. Any
equivalent combination of education and/or professional work experience which provides the required education, knowledge, skills and
abilities as indicated. Ability to work days, evenings, weekends and holidays as directed.
Desirable Qualifications:
Possession of a Master’s degree in any field from an accredited university and successful experience working in career exploration or
support services in a university or college. Knowledge of UH Hilo programs, resources and deadlines. Knowledge of University of Hawaii
system processes for students. Ability to work and communicate with university administrators, faculty and staff in support of Native
Hawaiian student success.
Pay range: PBB, minimum $4762/month
