Position Summary |
Academic Advisor positions in the College will be housed in and work closely with the departments that coordinate the students’ majors they are assigned. In addition to professional, independent work advising students on course and program selection, this position assists |

Strong organizational skills, detail-oriented, experience working with students, comfortable with public speaking. A degree and/or background in agriculture. |

Duties/Responsibilities |
Advising Students: Meet with students to recommend major-specific courses for the next semester, prepare advising forms, answer student questions, and direct students to resources on campus. This involves extensive prep time; a thorough understanding of assigned majors’ requirements, course offerings, and nuances; competency in advising-related software; and awareness of campus resources. Provide advising related feedback to departmental faculty. |

Recruitment: Participate in recruitment and retention events for the college and the academic departments in which the position’s majors are housed. This can include, but is not limited to, Orientation 2.0, Transfer Student Welcome, Georgia DAZE, New Dawgs, Scholar Initium, and Resource Fair. Meet with prospective students and families as needed. Prepare transfer plans for prospective transfer students. |

Student Development: Prepare students and assist departments in student affairs and enrichment activities. Monitor at-risk students in caseload, including those on academic probation, at risk of being placed on academic probation, and with known personal challenges reported to the advisor. Work with college academic coach, department faculty, Disability Resource Center, and/or Student Care and Outreach as needed to help support student retention and success. |

Professional Development: Attend meetings, classes, workshops, and conferences related to academic advising and student affairs. This can include, but is not limited to, staff meetings, staff retreats, the Certificate in Academic Advising, Fall and Spring Advisor Workshops, Advisor Brown Bags, and NACADA conferences as budget allows. |
