The Heavener School of Business (HSB) is seeking a dynamic and creative individual to join our team as the Global Advisor. This role provides comprehensive academic and study abroad advising for undergraduate students interested in both HSB and non-HSB international programs. Your role is crucial in supporting students’ academic and professional growth through international experiences.

Key Functions and Responsibilities Include but are not limited to:
Study Abroad Advising
- Provides holistic advising for all HSB and non-HSB international programs through in-person and electronic communication.
- Assists students in selecting study abroad programs to ensure choices align with their academic and professional goals.
- Informs students regarding HSB, University of Florida International Center (UFIC), and program partners’ application deadlines, policies, and procedures.
- Provides personalized guidance to students throughout their study abroad application and visa processes.
- Collaborates with program partners and University of Florida International Center (UFIC) to address student questions and concerns.
- Supports students during critical or urgent situations using university and partner resources abroad.
Program Administration
Strategic Planning & Leadership
Additional Duties
Work Schedule:
- Monday to Friday, 8:00am to 5:00pm.
- This position is eligible for a hybrid remote work schedule.
- Participation in evening or weekend events as required.
- International Travel as needed.
Competencies in the following areas:
Academic Counseling Proficiency Level 3:
- Demonstrates in-depth experience with managing a full spectrum of academic counseling functions.
- Compares and contrasts academic options that facilitate or impede students’ academic skill development.
- Organizes follow-up consultations to evaluate the effectiveness and efficiency of academic programs.
Academic Support System Administration Proficiency Level 2:
- Administrates an academic support system to coordinate and support academic activities.
- Applies appropriate computer-based technologies to address, advise on and resolve students’ academic problems.
- Monitors the operational conditions of an academic support system to ensure the implementation of academic support activities.
Coaching Others Proficiency Level 3:
- Analyzes patterns and identifies key areas for improvement of processes or results.
- Coaches one or several individuals or teams on a specific competency or subject area.
- Successfully coaches both superstars and problem performers.
Decision-Making and Critical Thinking Proficiency Level 3:
- Uses effective decision-making approaches such as consultative, command, or consensus.
- Differentiates assumptions, perspectives, and historical frameworks.
- Leverages experience in analyzing relevant data and assessing implications of alternatives.
Effective Communication Proficiency Level 2:
- Makes oral presentations and writes reports needed for own work.
- Avoids technical jargon when inappropriate.
- Looks for and considers non-verbal cues from individuals and groups.
Flexibility and Adaptability Proficiency Level 2:
Interpersonal Relationships Proficiency Level 2:
- Collaborates with departmental associates and management.
- Adapts interaction style to situations and people.
- Identifies roles and responsibilities for self and others.
Problem Solving Proficiency Level 2:

- Develops alternative techniques for assessing accuracy and relevance of information.

About the City of Gainesville

Expected Salary:
$45,000- $55,000; Commensurate with experience
Minimum Requirements:
Master’s degree in education, counseling, higher education, international education, or a related field and one year of relevant experience; or a bachelor’s degree in related field with three years of relevant experience.
