Introduction
The Department of History at the University of Connecticut is seeking applications for a tenure-track position in Roman History at the Assistant Professor level, with an anticipated start date of August 23, 2024. This position welcomes applicants with expertise in Roman History across different chronological periods, from early Rome to Late Antiquity.
The successful candidate will be responsible for teaching 4 courses annually at the Storrs campus. This includes instructing a significant undergraduate survey course (likely HIST 1300 Western Traditions before 1500), upper-level and graduate courses within their specialization, and core courses in both undergraduate and graduate programs. Collaboration with the Classics & Ancient Mediterranean Studies program in the Literatures, Cultures, and Languages Department is expected. The candidate should demonstrate a strong commitment to effective and inclusive teaching and mentoring for a diverse student body. Furthermore, the candidate should maintain an active research profile through high-quality publications and participate in service and outreach initiatives.
The Department of History at the University of Connecticut comprises 40 tenure-track faculty members, 4 non-tenure-track faculty members, 40 graduate students, and 300 undergraduate majors. Appointment Terms
This is a full-time, 9-month, tenure-track position, expected to commence in August 2024. The academic appointment will be at the Storrs campus, with the possibility of teaching at one of UConn’s regional campuses as part of the ordinary workload. Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
