The Opportunity:
Landscape and Natural Resources is seeking to hire a Superintendent of Groundskeeping responsible for, but not limited to, supervising, training, planning, scheduling, and coordinating the workload for assigned employees. This position facilitates workforce productivity, motivates staff to act as a high-performance landscape team, communicates pertinent information, monitors staff performance, and provides documentation for any disciplinary communication. Superintendent of Groundskeeping is also a point of customer contact which represents the organization and is responsible for ensuring customer, satisfaction and communication.
Responsibilities:
Supervise and lead assigned crew as part of a High-Performance Landscape Teams.
Oversee all landscape initiatives, including maintenance, fertilizer/ herbicide, technical horticulture identification and solution, as well as employee relations and material/ supplies requirements.
Provide proactive measures for potential irrigation, disease, or safety issues within the landscape.
Inspect assigned zones prior to scheduled services to develop an appropriate action plan, and perform hands on work as needed.
Delegate tasks to crew members while overseeing day to day site operations.
Provide crew members training, including proper equipment operation, pruning techniques, safety, and quality standards.
Manage and log equipment usage and maintenance cycles for all equipment assigned to the zone such as small engine equipment, mowers, trucks, trailers, and any other equipment used to perform landscape task in assigned zone.
Provide proactive measures for potential irrigation, disease, or safety issues within the landscape.
Minimum Qualifications:
High School Diploma or Equivalent and 4+ years of relevant experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience pursuant to Fla. Stat. 112.219(6).
Preferred Qualifications:
Excellent communication, interpersonal, and customer service skills in English in order to: work effectively with customers and supervise team members; operate and demonstrate the functions of the electronic equipment and tools to staff members; comprehend and describe standard safety procedures to staff members; and utilize communication devices.
Management skills such as: planning, organizing, controlling, ability to delegate, train, coach, lead, mentor, motivate, and ensure cohesiveness in a diverse work environment.
Working knowledge of trades classifications and functions including tools and materials, and task specific sequencing required for Landscape maintenance and Hardscapes.
Prior use and interpretation of maintenance or facility union contracts and vendor contracts applicable to task assignments and schedule efficiencies.
Proven ability to analyze budgets pertaining to facility service organizations or maintenance organizations.
Ability to assess appropriate skill level to task to provide most cost-effective service.
Health Assessment Required:
The UCF policy requires completion and passing of a physical exam for this position.
