Office of Student Rights and Responsibilities:
The Office of Student Rights and Responsibilities (OSRR) promotes a campus climate of integrity, civility, accountability, and student well-being by providing a wide array of resources, education, and support services for the university community. OSRR also includes Student Conduct and Academic Integrity & Student Care Services. OSRR oversees the Golden Rule Student Handbook, The UCF Creed, the Admission Clearance process, Dean’s Certifications, and Remedial Measures for students involved in Title IX-related incidents.
The Opportunity:
The Director, Student Conduct is responsible for administering and interpreting the Rules of Conduct and for establishing appropriate procedures to implement the Student Conduct Review Process. The Director, Student Conduct provides vision and leadership for the office. A major responsibility is educating students on their rights and responsibilities as members of the UCF community, resolving alleged violations of the Rules of Conduct through procedures outlined in the Golden Rule Student Handbook, training and serving in an advisory capacity to all student, staff and faculty involved in adjudicating student conduct cases and maintaining accurate, confidential records for each case.
The Director, Student Conduct serves as the chief disciplinary officer and directs the overall operations of the student conduct system for undergraduate students, graduate students, and organizations for cases of academic and non-academic misconduct, both on and off campus.
Responsibilities:
Review and make final determinations on all student conduct cases.
The Director is responsible for revising the Student Conduct Review Process as appropriate, and for publicizing the contents of the process.
The Director is responsible for extensive training and ongoing monitoring of student/faculty/staff conduct boards.
Contribute to the management and maintenance of the Maxient database.
Serve on the Student of Concern Team to assist in reviewing students of concern.
Represent Student Conduct and Academic Integrity on the University Crisis Team.
Promote and support an inclusive campus environment.
Educate the entire University community about the rights and responsibilities of UCF students. This effort includes workshops, presentations, publications, advertising, marketing, etc.
Develop and maintain strong relationships and clear lines of communication with UCF Police Department, Housing and Residence Life, Fraternity and Sorority Life, Office of Institutional Equity/Title IX, Office of Student Involvement, General Counsel, Undergraduate and Graduate Studies, UCF Downtown, and Student Care Services.
Support the division on university-wide initiatives by serving on or chairing various committees.
Oversee the review and follow through of cases, including the maintenance of records.
Serve as an Advisor to the Golden Rule Review Committee.
Promotion and marketing of the Rules of Conduct.
Overall oversight for the recruitment, hiring, training and evaluation of all office staff personnel.
Direct and indirect supervision of one (1) full-time A&P Program Manager, (2) full-time A&P Assistant Directors, (2) full-time A&P Coordinators, (1) full-time USPS Administrative Assistant, (1) graduate assistant and interns and student assistants.
Indirect oversight of approximately 20 residential housing staff with their responsibilities related to administering the university student conduct process in the residence halls.
Serve as a resource to department and other University staff, faculty and all other Student Success and Well-Being staff members in working with disruptive students, other alleged violations of the Rules of Conduct, student record issues (FERPA), local, state, and federal law questions and issues and any due process rights.
Monitor and stay abreast of legislative issues and bills affecting the office and the university.
Weekly contact with students, staff, faculty, parents/guardians, and UCF Police Department. Other contact with general counsel, ombuds, Title IX Coordinator, Title IX investigators, attorneys, community agencies and other administrative offices on campus.
Control a student conduct budget allocated by Student Success and Well-Being. Prepare, submit, and defend annual budgets and carry out fiduciary responsibilities.
Develop the Student Conduct and Academic Integrity assessment plan, collecting and analyzing data to enhance the process and report student behavioral trends. Implement any necessary programmatic and policy changes as a result of assessment data.
Oversee the Honor Your Knighthood Modules and serve as course administrator for Academic Integrity Module.
Oversee the promotion, outreach, and education of the UCF CREED.
Prepare and analyze statistical and annual reports regarding student conduct data.
The Director will work with Campus Police to collect Clery data and complete the University’s Annual Security and Fire Report.
The Director will also be expected to work with the Deputy Title IX Coordinator to ensure investigations and procedures are in compliance with state and federal law.
Responsible for all confidential student conduct records at UCF and for interpreting the release of all of those records in accordance with all relevant national and state laws.
Follows standard of ethics as provided by professional associations and UCF.
Supervised by the Interim Dean of Students through weekly meetings and on an as needed basis.
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor’s and 8+ years of relevant experience or Master’s degree and 6+ years of relevant experience with at least 3+ year(s) of leadership experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience pursuant to Fla. Stat. 112.219(6).
Preferred Qualifications:
Five-eight years of professional experience in positions with progressive responsibility in a college or university setting. Three-five of those years professional experience in a student conduct office.
Experience hiring, evaluating, supervising and training staff.
A commitment to excellence, innovation, and ethical standards while fulfilling stated student learning outcomes.
Effectiveness in relationship building with a wide range of campus constituencies, including professional staff, students, faculty, families, and law enforcement.
An operational understanding of excellence in office management, office record security, and organizational efficiency.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Proficiency in PC computer and mobile devices as well as Microsoft Office products.
Knowledge and application of best practices in the student conduct field.
Experience working with the student disciplinary processes in a public university setting, including knowledge of laws and policies effecting student rights and privacy.
Experience in the preparation and maintenance of student records. An understanding and practical implementation of marketing strategies to position all operational elements for success.
Experience in long term strategic planning.
Involvement in professional associations and other forms of professional development.
Strong public speaking skills.
