The Opportunity:
The Assistant Director, International Employment & Taxation position is responsible for managing UCF Global’s Employment & Taxation functions including personnel, all related tasks, and processes. Processes include foreign national compliance, foreign national student & employee payroll appointments, financial aid scholarship appointments, awards, foreign student & non-student vendor setup, foreign vendor payments & foreign student reimbursements, student financials for the English Language Program, and faculty billing & student progression for the Global Achievement Academy’s (GAA). Position assists and escorts students to obtain Social Security Numbers. Position meets and assists foreign students with filing for their IRS ITIN number. Position assists foreign students in tax preparation appointments & workshops. Position may assist with UCF Global’s budget tracking, reconciling, and projections.
This is an auxiliary funded position. Employment is subject to availability of funding and may cease at the time funding for this employment is depleted.
Responsibilities:
Manage foreign national employment processing. Process and verify employment documents for foreign national students and employees in coordination with HR. Interpret and apply regulatory policies when processing foreign national new hires. Maintain a high level of knowledge on current immigration laws and procedures related to employment. Ensure maintenance of appropriate documentation and archiving. Ensure timely completion and accurate processing of USCIS forms & documentation, such as the I-9 & W-4. Ensure the confidentiality and security of immigration documents submitted to the office. Serve as a resource for departments, faculty, and staff on immigration and labor issues related to the F-1 & J-1 visas. Coordinate & escort students to the Social Security Office. Collect IRS employment treaty documents such as IRS Form 8233.
Manage non-resident alien (NRA) processing for tax compliance. Ensure that departments and the university are complying with IRS regulations related to NRA taxation and its implications. Process ITIN/W-7 applications through the department’s IRS Certified Acceptance Agent program. Train departmental personnel on IRS tax requirements and reporting. Interpret and apply IRS regulatory policies pertaining to international tax treaties and immigration laws.
Gather data for production of year-end 1042S reports. Analyze and apply tax withholding rates for various NRA scholarship awards and grants. Reconcile NRA payments with amounts remitted to Student Financial Aid. Update NRA software & databases (Tax Navigator) with individuals’ visa information.
Oversee the foreign national supplier process.
Provide individual international tax prep software assistance. Aid international students & employees with accessing Sprintax (individual tax software). Conduct workshops for international students to assist with tax preparation.
Oversee UCF Global’s student financials. Mange & track all billing, refunds, and adjustments related to student payments & tuition. Manage & track all payments related to Shorelight & GAA such as progression fees, referral fees & faculty reimbursements.
Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree and 4+ years of relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experiencepursuant to .
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience in Higher Education.
Experience with I-9 processing for international employees.
Experience with IRS reporting such as 1042-S filings.
Experience with Non-Resident Alien tax preparation.
