DEPARTMENT OVERVIEW
The Division of Global Engagement (DGE) at the University of California Santa Cruz advances the University’s teaching, learning, and research mission by working collaboratively throughout the institution to promote global engagement and advance campus internationalization by increasing international mobility among students and faculty, promoting faculty engagement in international activities and developing strategic partnerships abroad. DGE interacts with campus leadership on strategic planning and initiatives to elevate the reputation of UC Santa Cruz globally. DGE units include International Student Services and Programs (ISSP), International Faculty & Scholar Services, Global Learning, and Global Initiatives.

JOB SUMMARY
The Global Learning Advisor reports to the Global Learning Director and uses skills as a seasoned, experienced study abroad professional to provide the full range of student services to students seeking acceptance to a study abroad and away program and manages a portfolio of programs. Independently advises students and resolves student service-related issues on the full range of academic, cultural, and logistical issues inherent within any study abroad or away program. The incumbent recommends solutions to program requirement issues. Works independently under general supervision. Advises faculty and management on a variety of student issues related to Global Learning programs. Recommends changes to policies, practices, and procedures within the context of UCSC Global Learning programs. UCSC Global Learning oversees a portfolio of custom programs, such as faculty-led, exchanges, and internships, which are growing rapidly and are a priority for the Division and campus. University of California systemwide programs, such as UCEAP and the University of California Washington DC Center Internship program are also part of the portfolio. The incumbent will develop in-depth knowledge of all Global Learning program options. They will maintain general knowledge of campus academic departments, schools and colleges, and major and degree requirements to match a student’s interests, academic/linguistic/cultural preparation, and goals to the appropriate program. Advisers are expected to participate in general and program-specific student recruitment, application review and selection, pre-departure preparation, health and safety requirements, and re-entry activities for students. Advisers participate in divisional initiatives and contribute to improving work processes within Global Engagement to achieve the divisional goals and objectives. As UCSC continues to develop relationships with institutions overseas, advisers work directly with faculty, campus departments, and international partners to maintain these opportunities and provide administrative oversight. Advisers are expected to demonstrate good judgment and advanced problem-solving skills when addressing issues and to assist with training and mentoring less experienced team members. Under general supervision, advisers work independently with regard to time management, program portfolio oversight, and student advising caseload to meet office and program deadlines.
APPOINTMENT INFORMATION
Budgeted Salary: $70,900 – $75,000 / annually. Salary commensurate with skills, qualifications and experience.
Under California law, the University of California, Santa Cruz is required to post a reasonable estimate of the compensation for this role. The salary shown above is the budgeted amount the University reasonably expects to pay and the salary extended should not exceed this posted amount.
