DEPARTMENT OVERVIEW The mission of Educational Opportunity Programs (EOP) is to provide various academic and personal support programs to first-generation to college, low-income students with diverse social and personal identities and from historically marginalized backgrounds, so that they may achieve their academic, professional, and personal goals and become active leaders in their communities. Building on the legacy of the Civil Rights movement, EOP’s equity-minded staff team (students and professionals) advocate for and partner with each student and the larger campus community, from the first year and beyond graduation, to dismantle systemic barriers to their success, uncover the hidden curriculum, and cultivate a space where they can learn and belong at UC Santa Cruz. In addition to the EOP team, this position is embedded within the UCSC HSI (Hispanic Serving Institutions) Initiatives focused on improving educational equity through academic and advising interventions to student populations that are minoritized in higher education. The EOP and HSI teams reside within the Division of Student Affairs and Success at UC Santa Cruz. JOB SUMMARY The UC Computing Scholars Coordinator is a seasoned professional who supports students in the UC Computing Scholars program. The Coordinator assists in the transition of computing students from the community college to universities. The Coordinator travels to community college partners to provide advice and assistance regarding transfer and the UC Computing Scholars program. The incumbent develops, implements, tracks, assesses, and reports on the program. The position is funded through an NSF project (Award number: 2245904) and has the potential to be extended to the entire duration of the project (May 31, 2028). Under the general direction of the UC Computing Scholars Principal Investigator and direct supervision of one of the EOP Assistant Directors, the UC Computing Scholars Coordinator provides direct services to computing students with programs to support the academic success, retention and graduation of student. The incumbent provides academic and personal counseling/guidance and manages student cases to propel their development and success as university students. In addition, the UC Computing Scholars Coordinator collaborates with campus partners including the Colleges, Academic Departments, faculty, student service units and student organizations on retention/student success initiatives. The incumbent is readily accessible to faculty, staff, students and parents/family members to communicate as allowable concerning student case management. UC Computing Scholars Coordinator advises students, and implements retention programs and special projects. The incumbent supervises and trains student staff and engages in professional development to implement best practices and research-based methodologies.
