Position Description:
This position of Public Health Specialist (PHS) is part of the team working on the UCLA Public Health Scholars Training Program. The PHS will assure that program goals are being met and that coordination and communication occurs across all activities. The primary source of funding is the Centers for Disease Control, Office of Health Equity, as part of a collaborative agreement with four other sites. The program will recruit 35-40 undergraduate students each year to participate in an 8-week residential public health training opportunity at UCLA. Program components include: internship site placement with a public health agency to work 3 days per week; participation in didactic and experiential activities on campus (in person, virtually, or hybrid) 2 days per week; and engagement in mentoring and community events some evenings and weekends.
The PHS will lead in the development and implementation of program standards, policies and procedures. This can include but is not limited to developing training curriculum, engaging community partners, securing internship sites for scholars, inviting and scheduling speakers, and processing honorariums. Additionally, the PHS will collaborate with partners in the cooperative agreement to plan and implement the annual CDC Showcase & Expo. The PHS will also be responsible for scholar recruitment and application review; updating the website and social media platforms; managing the program’s email; ensuring supplies are ordered and expenses are tracked; supporting data collection and management; contributing to progress reports; and effectively tracking alumni. The PHS is expected to be a resourceful problem-solver who is motivated to work independently, while being a collaborative team player with strong interpersonal skills, attention to detail, and a growth-mindset.
Special Instructions:
