Position Description:
UCLA Vending employs 12 FTE’s with annual operating budgets totaling approximately $2.5M. The Vending program is responsible for providing the campus with convenient, reasonably priced food products to faculty, staff and students. The department operates approximately 350 vending machines at 45 primary locations on campus.
The Assistant Director of Vending & Refreshment Solutions oversees the strategic planning, revenue growth, and execution of the vending and refreshment program. They lead the development and management of multiple lines of business such as micro-markets, office coffee services, delivery programs, and traditional vending.
The Assistant Director’s key responsibilities include:
1. Strategic planning.
2. Development and implementation of short and long-range plans.
3. Quality assurance.
4. Resource management.
5. Customer service.
6. Staff oversight.
7. Financial budget development and oversight.
The Assistant Director will serve as a leader and mentor to their team, developing leadership and departmental programs. They will plan procedures to improve operational effectiveness and efficiency, collaborate with stakeholders to meet business needs, and maintain accountability controls for staff management. They must possess strong communication skills, critical thinking, and time management skills, and be able to interact effectively with team members and guests in high volume dining environments.
Major interface of the Vending Division with the Purchasing Department, Accounting Office, Physical Plant, Residence Halls, ASUCLA, and various academic departments is directed by the Assistant Director of Vending & Refreshment Solutions. The incumbent must possess a valid California Driver’s license. Position is subject to the California DMV’s “Pull Notice System” and continued employment is contingent upon proof of a satisfactory driving record.
