The Executive Director leads the units in OES to further the UCDH mission of public service by promoting a culture of safety and stewardship. The Executive Director has the authority and responsibility to intervene in any hospital operations whenever conditions pose an immediate threat to life and health or threaten damage to any Health System buildings and/or equipment. Departments reporting to the Executive Director of Occupational and Environmental Safety include Environmental Health & Safety (EH&S), Emergency Management, Employee Health Services (EHS), Workers’ Compensation, Fire Prevention, and Health Physics / Radiation Safety Program. These departments provide oversight in the areas of industrial hygiene, ergonomics, occupational health and safety, environmental health, pest control, laboratory safety, hazardous materials control, hazardous waste management, emergency management and preparedness, fire safety, radiological safety, hazard communication, environmental protection and compliance including air, water, soil. Department Description
The Executive Director of Occupational and Environmental Safety (OES) serves as the top organization environmental health and safety official, and is responsible for the overall leadership, policy development, operations management, and execution of system-wide safety programs in support of a complex, dynamic hospital, and research campus. This position directs the overall operations of the UCDH safety programs including, but not limited to occupational health, radiation, fire, emergency management, and environmental health and safety, including ensuring regulatory compliance and overall program management.
