The current base salary range for this position is $71,500 -$107,600 .”Off-scale” salaries, which yield compensation that is higher than the published system-wide salary at the designated rank and step, are offered when necessary to meet competitive conditions.

Position description
The Keasling Lab at the University of California, Berkeley and the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory consists of an interdisciplinary team of scientists and engineers who focus on engineering the chemistry inside microbial cells to produce life-saving therapies, clean-burning fuels, and new materials for a variety of applications. The Lab develops metabolic pathways to produce these valuable molecules, engineers genetic systems to control those pathways, develops technologies to make engineering biology easier, and explores fundamental questions in biochemistry and microbial biology.
The candidate will be responsible for engineering polyketide synthases (PKS) to produce commodity and specialty chemicals, expressing those engineered PKS’s in a variety of bacterial hosts, cultivating the engineered cells, and analyzing the products.
The candidate will also be responsible for working with the PI to design and execute experiments. In addition, they will aid the PI in mentoring undergraduate students, graduate students and postdoctoral scholars in their related research. The candidate will also be responsible for helping the PI write proposals for research funding.
