Departmental Overview
The California Institute for Quantitative Biosciences at UC Berkeley (QB3- Berkeley) harnesses the quantitative sciences of physics and engineering to unify our understanding of biological systems at all levels of complexity, from atoms and molecules to cells, tissues, and entire living organisms.

Responsibilities
Reporting directly to the PIs, Professors Aaron Streets and Sanjay Kumar, and supervising a team of undergraduate assistants, the incumbent will be involved in operational management of both laboratories, including: placing and tracking orders; organization and maintenance of the lab inventory; organizing and maintaining instrument warranty documentation; manuals, service records, etc., ensuring common supplies are stocked; performing routine lab-wide quality control tests (i.e. mycoplasma, cell line authentication); situating and training new lab members in basic lab safety and protocols; managing lab member departures; coordinating routine equipment maintenance; serving as the laboratory safety officer and assuming responsibility for developing safety protocols, understanding lab hazards, enforcing safety rules and maintaining safety/training records; performing training/orientation on routine lab procedures, especially in molecular and cell biology; maintaining/updating animal protocols, organizing animal protocol projects, training lab members in animal care and protocols, and executing in vivo research projects; updating and maintaining lab-wide plasmid and cell inventories. The incumbent will also serve as a point of contact to various research support offices on campus (e.g. EHS, Stanley Hall building management, OLAC) and as a point of contact for facilities off-campus (i.e. Addgene, collaborating labs, quality control services). The incumbent will also maintain updates, postings, and design of the official laboratory websites. The incumbent’s responsibilities may also include research support activities, with the level of independence of these contributions to be determined by time and interest, and at the discretion of the PIs.

This range takes into account the wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, analysis of internal equity, and other business and organizational needs. It is not typical for an individual to be offered a salary at or near the top of the range for a position. Salary offers are determined based on final candidate qualifications and experience.
The budgeted hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position is $24.65 – $30.21
