https://cea.uark.edu/Summary of Job Duties:The Senior Access Coordinator is primarily responsible for facilitating access to the academic programs, services, activities, and facilities of the institution for students with disabilities. This includes supervising and supporting the expedited registration, University Housing and Dining, Global Campus, Professional and Workforce Development accommodation request processes. Additionally, they coordinate access to advanced course enrollment, and serve as the primary point of contact for accommodated testing and related inquiries for students and faculty to ensure timely and effective solutions. Reporting to the Associate Director of Student Access, the Senior Access Coordinator directly supervises and provides leadership for two (2) part time Access Counselors, as well as intern(s) and practicum students. They assist with the supervision of Access Coordinators by providing support and guidance related to student accommodation service delivery.
The Senior Access Coordinator is responsible for conducting student access plan meetings, reviewing disability documentation, and assessing the interaction of the student’s disability with the environment to coordinate reasonable accommodations. They communicate with instructional staff and other university officials (as applicable) regarding accommodation provision; documenting and maintaining appropriate electronic records of verbal and written communications. Additionally, they monitor compliance, provide leadership and direction in all areas of the Center, including assisting with designing, developing, updating and maintaining an accessible and interactive website.
The Senior Access Coordinator is responsible for researching and evaluating best practices and trends in postsecondary accessibility solutions. They provide university-wide consultation, education, and training on the social construction of disability, technological accessibility in learning environments and campus programs. The Senior Access Coordinator must demonstrate a commitment to the principles of equity, access, and inclusion; student development; universal design for learning; and diversity through involvement and participation in University/division-wide projects and initiatives.
Regular, reliable, and non-disruptive attendance is an essential job duty, as is the ability to create and maintain collegial, harmonious working relationships with others.Qualifications:
Minimum Qualifications:
Master’s degree in a directly related field of study (such as Rehabilitation Counseling, Clinical Mental Health Counseling, School Counseling, Adult Education, Higher Education or Public Administration)
Three years of experience working with persons with disabilities at the postsecondary educational level
Two years of experience working and communicating with instructional staff and university officials
Two years of experience supervising professional or graduate student staff and working in an inclusive community
Must have experience successfully navigating university processes and procedures and an ability to objectively advocate for the needs/rights of others
Must have experience with and be well versed on FERPA and have an ability to maintain confidentiality within the bounds of applicable laws and regulations
Applicable equivalencies may be considered on the above qualifications.
Preferred Qualifications
Licensure/certification in related field
Experience working with student mental health concerns
Experience with assistive technology and document conversion
Experience using an HCM system such as Workday
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities (KSAs):
Working knowledge of state and federal legislation related to persons with disabilities, as well as other applicable laws
Knowledge of University policies, guidelines, and processes
Superior interpersonal, listening, oral and written communication skills to effectively and professionally communicate using tact and diplomacy
Demonstrated self-management, organizational, and time management skills
Skill in monitoring/assessing the performance of self, other individuals, or organizations to make improvements or take corrective action
Basic skills in Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, as well as knowledge of other related technology
Ability to think critically, exercise mature judgment in identifying problems, and generate solutions
Ability to maintain effective working relationships, build trust, and work collaboratively with stakeholders
Demonstrated commitment to inclusive and diverse practices that recognize intersectionality and multiple identities
Ability to adapt to frequent changes, balance multiple competing priorities and perform highly detailed work
