Summary of Job Duties:The Extension Associate works under the supervision of the Director, the Center of Excellence of UAPB Aquaculture/Fisheries Center. The successful candidate demonstrates the ability to develop a productive extension and research program in baitfish, sportfish, and food fish aquaculture. A commitment to developing a dynamic extension and research program that has a strong impact in the state of Arkansas is required. Willingness to learn and apply effective extension methodologies to develop a high-impact extension program is required. Excellent communication skills that include oral, written, and social media are also required. The incumbent should maintain on-farm field and indoor research trials, and demo/model ponds showcasing biosecurity practices, and profitable production of important fish species for research, extension, and outreach activities.
In addition, the Extension Associate will be crucial in assisting the fish disease diagnostic laboratory at Lake Village and will be accountable for catfish program planning in southeast and southwest Arkansas, as well as conducting water quality testing for row crop producers, crop consultants, and well drillers. The candidate will also coordinate programs aimed at encouraging high school and undergraduate student involvement, organize field day events, and facilitate various educational activities under the guidance of the Center Director.
The Extension Associate will oversee the comprehensive management of various aspects, including ponds, water supply, electrical systems, equipment, vehicles, golf carts, buildings, and roads, ensuring their proper maintenance and supporting the needs of research and extension faculty, staff, and students. Additionally, the candidate will be responsible for supervising any required facility renovations.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Extension Associate must hold a high school diploma plus at least 10 years of experience in managing aquaculture ponds and hatchery management required; a bachelor’s degree plus at least 7 years of experience or a master’s degree (preferred) in Aquaculture or a closely related field. Applicants must provide three letters of recommendation, a letter of application addressing the position’s requirements, curriculum vitae, and US equivalence transcripts from all universities attended. Require excellent communication skills. Preference will be given to the applicant willing to live in Lake Village and flexible work hours.
Personal Characteristics: The successful candidate will be a conscientious individual who takes pride in managing a major aquaculture research facility. Understanding the importance of managing research/demo ponds on the level necessary to produce high-quality data so that research results are reliable is essential. The incumbent must also develop effective working relationships with the faculty, staff, and students of the UAPB Aquaculture/Fisheries Center.
