Department/Organization: 208185 – Brewer Porch Children’s Center
Normal Work Schedule: Monday – Friday 8:00am to 5:00pm; some evenings and some weekends
Job Summary: The Training Specialist is responsible for planning, organizing, directing, and conducting specialized training requirements for a college, department, or division.
Additional Department Summary: The Training Specialist provides comprehensive training and skills development for staff at the Brewer Porch Children’s Center (BPCC). Organizes and implements training programs to ensure training fidelity, timeliness, and effectiveness. Ensures consistency and congruence with policies, procedures and requirements of BPCC, state or Alabama, and other regulatory and accrediting agencies through regular review and development of staff training curricula, materials, and activities. Assesses skill levels of staff and advises on best practices and productivity as it relates to department workflows and operations. Maintains training documentation and records.
Required Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree and one (1) year of experience; OR an Associate’s degree and three (3) years of experience.
Additional Required Department Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree and one (1) year of clinical experience related to children with special needs, or other related behavioral health experience; OR, an Associate’s degree and three (3) years of clinical experience related to children with special needs, or other related behavioral health experience.
Must be able to perform designated crisis intervention techniques. Certification as a trainer for designated crisis intervention techniques required, or ability to complete certification requirements within 30 days of employment. Certification as a trainer for CPR/First Aid required, or ability to complete certification requirements within 30 days of employment.
Final candidates who are not current Brewer-Porch Children’s Center employees must submit to and successfully pass a post-offer drug screen.
Must be able to work some evenings and weekends as needed. Some travel may be required.
Skills and Knowledge: Broad understanding of skills training and development. Excellent communication, public relations, customer service, and public speaking skills. Strong instruction and facilitation skills. Skill in organizing work to achieve department goals and objectives.
Ability to cope with stressful conditions. Ability to demonstrate tact, versatility, and adaptability. Ability to demonstrate a high degree of self-motivation and directional initiative. Proficiency in use of multi-media equipment, presentation software, and Microsoft Office. Skill in exercising initiative, judgment, problem-solving, and decision-making.
Excellent organizational and administrative skills. Ability to work independently. Ability to communicate effectively with staff and clinical support teams. Ability to maintain strict confidentiality of protected health information and the requirement to follow HIPPA regulations at all times.
Preferred Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree or higher in social work, special education, or behavioral/mental health field. One (1) year of training experience to include design, development, implementation, and evaluation of training programs and initiatives, including training plans, curricula, and methodology for adult education purposes.
Familiarity with Medicaid, State of Alabama Department of Mental Health, Department of Human Resources, and Department of Education standards and guidelines.
