Summary

Two labs in the Department of Communicative
Disorders and Sciences at the University at Buffalo-the Cognition, Speech Perception, and Auditory Neuroscience Lab (CSPAN,
PI: Dr. Christopher Heffner) and
the Buffalo Oromotor, Speech, & Swallowing Lab (BOSS, PI: Dr. Kaila Stipancic)-are seeking an organized, talented individual capable of jointly
managing two recently established labs.

This individual will work with the PIs to manage and oversee two laboratories that
investigate speech production and perception across a variety of approaches and populations. This includes use of behavioral and
neuroimaging methods in both healthy older and younger populations and populations with speech and language disorders such as individuals
with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), multiple sclerosis (MS), and Parkinson’s disease (PD). Some studies take place in community
settings at local museums and libraries.

It is anticipated that the Lab Manager will be able to be
involved in many aspects of the research process.

The primary responsibilities of the Lab Manager
include:

• Coordinating the activities of the labs, including supervising undergraduate and graduate research
  assistants who work in the labs
• Organizing tasks
• Institutional Review Board (IRB) protocols
• Financial
  reports
• Procurement and records in the labs.

The Lab Manager should have strong interpersonal and communication
skills. They may also be involved in aspects of the research production itself, including study design and execution. The Lab Manager will
be managing young labs still in development. As such, the individual should be a creative problem-solver with a knack for troubleshooting
and clever solutions.

Minimum
Qualifications

• BA/BS in Communicative Disorders and Sciences, Psychology, Linguistics, Neuroscience, Cognitive Science, or
  related fields and up to 2 years related experience.
• Experience with human subjects research related to the above
  fields
• Excellent organizational skills
• Excellent problem-solving skills
• Excellent communication skills, both
  written and oral

Preferred Qualifications

• MA/MS in Communicative Disorders and Sciences, Psychology,
  Linguistics, Neuroscience, Cognitive Science, or related fields
• Leadership in groups and teams working towards a common
  goal
• Speech science research, including acoustic analysis
• Software such as Praat, R, Matlab, and Python
• Project
  management software such as Asana
• Experience working with individuals (including clinical populations) of a variety of ages, from
  children to older adults
• Sales or recruitment, both for finding talented undergraduate research assistants and enrolling research
  participants
• Financial recordkeeping and/or procurement
• Graphic design and website management

Salary
Range
$37,000 – $42,000

Work Hours

Monday – Friday
8:30 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.
Will
include some travel and non-traditional hours to accommodate data collection and supervision (evenings,
weekends)
